If that doen't hold for you, then why not just vhange the wy we handle Boxsets too, since they ARE essential;ly the same, contain similar sata. we don't need the Cover Art, or th cast and crew list(we have dividers), and we don't need o know where the Special Features are.

Nervous about the current vote status or just no coffee yet

Don't worry, when I came here the "no child profiles at all" options was much clearer in the lead, the vote is only a few hours old and still subject to change.

Skip, let's not get polemic here. Your are intelligent enough to know there are vast differences between movie box sets and TV series. Most of the times movies in a box set have completely different aspect ratios, completely different extras, different production years, different studios, different sound tracks, different subtitles, different overviews... Should I go on ?

All this is not true for series.

Ken's option is the only one that should be considered - first and foremost because its Ken's, but also because it let's both sides have their preferences.

This is IMO the best reason to vote for this, it pleases both camps, so is a very sensible solution.
Option 2 for me

They shar far more in common than substantive differences.

The way I handle TV series is to have a parent profile and then one child profile for each thin case no matter how many disc are in each thin case.  Example, Stargate Atlantis season  has  disc in 3 thin cases.  I have on parent profile with 3 child profiles.  The first 2 child profiles have 2 disc in each with the third having just 1 disc.  Packaging does matter to me.

If it is digipak, then there is only one profile with the disc listed in the disc section.

This way I get to have all the cover art, but I don't clutter up my db with a profile for each disc.

You're not cluttering anything up.  Packaging should not determine how many profiles you have, because you aren't being consistent across the board.  You're not getting complete information by dumping multiple discs into one profile.  The only format that gives you maximum data usability is disc level.

Of course, you can do your local however you want to, but all the data should be available to everybody from the online master database.  Its better to download more than you want and then delete the parts you don't need, then it is to start out missing pieces because somebody didn't allow it.

So you are saying that I should have 41 profiles for the Buffy complete series, and if I want to know which episode Dominic Keating from Startrek Enterprise played in, I have to search throu 40 profiles?

I agree with this one, we been fighting about this for almost 2 years, It's really getting old, no one is going to change there thoughts. It's really time to quite starting a new poll every few days  and get it settled.

If people don't want child profiles don't download them, the info should be in the parent an child and then both side can delete what they don't want. Let not argue for anther year, personallly I like the child profiles because I can have a overview for each episode.

So what?  It isn't the difference in studios, etc.  What's important is the KIND of data it is, and studio data is studio data, and aspect ratios are aspect ratios, and so on.  Your argument doesn't hold water.

I shouldn't if I were you Skip, they'd probaly ask for a recount

Personally I'm with Boykin, I like to have mine set as a Parent with child profile for the individual disc's, but then that's my personal database, but I do find it easier to maintain. Like John as TV Series season is very mush like a box set, 1 case, multiple disc's/DVD's.

LDH, Skip already PM'd me about this, saying we had different polls about this issue. I am a forum regular, visiting the IVS (and now the Invelos) forum every day. I don't recall having seen a single poll about how TV series should be handled in the rules. It is my strong believe that Skip, Rifter and a few others convinced themselves for no reason that a majority of users wants child profiles for series.

I started this poll to make sure that there is a democratic decision about this before the rules are changed. Sorry to hear that the current result of this poll is not to your liking, but that's life.

I don't have to have an argument for anything, Rifter. You are the one who wants to allow something that is not covered by the rules so far and tries to change the rules accordingly.

So you have to bring forward arguments why you think child profiles are needed. So far you did neither convince me nor the majority of voters.

It don't matter if I like it or not, when the dust settle and the rules are made I'll follow them. If they come out and say no child profiles then I will be removing then from my local and do them the rules state they should be done, right now they don't hold any water.

All I saying is it time "we all quite pissing in the wind" and settle it once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!
