it isn't for the mpaa to teach anyone's child what is right or wrong. that a parent's job.

threatening filmmakers with an R certainly does impose a twisted, underhanded censorship, just as giving a film an NC-17 rating does. it can drastically change boxoffice intake, so of course the major studio's back it, because if they can get everything cleared as under R than all the little rugrats from 10 to 16 can go see all the movies where people get killed with guns and blown up and raped. As much a i like movies like casino royale, it was rated pg-13 and had more mindnumbing violence in the first 15 minutes that (if you believe that movies influence behavor ) could cause more damage than seeing someone smoke a cigarette.

and on top of all that, when was the last time anyone saw someone puffing away?

it's a ridiculous idea in the middle of ridiculous time.
