Bonus movie means box-set?

A contribution has been made for The Dirty Dozen: 2-Disc Special Edition in the Dutch locality changing it into a box-set apparantly because the DVD with the extra's also contains a bonus movie "The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission".

As I've viewed the bonus movie to be just an extra feature, I'm wandering if considering it a box-set is correct (meaning I have to vote "yes").

Going strictly by the rules....

Rules Quote:
Quote:
The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film. The main examples are:

    * Sets where each film is packaged individually, and held together in a package of some kind.
    * Sets where each film is on a separate disc, but not individually packaged. This includes gatefold Digipaks and 2-Disc sets in normal DVD cases.
    * Sets containing 2 films, one on each side of Dual-Sided DVD.

It makes no exception if the other movie is an extra or not. So I don't see where you can legally vote no.

I was under the impression this type of release was handled another way... but there is no mention of it in the rules yet... so in my opinion  as per the rules this IS a boxset.

I remember this coming up on the old Intervocative website with Ben Hur (because the silent original was also in the case).
If I remember rightly it was decided that it was a bonus feature, not an extra film, so on the whole it would not be classed as a box set.
I'm over at the Intervocative site now trying to get confirmation, but it's a bit slow.

Actually, though a number of us protested mightily, it ended up with the silent version being profiled as well, as a child, I believe.

It SHOULD be a bonus feature as far as I'm concerned.  The unit was not sold on the basis of it being two movies, but as the Charleton Heston version of Ben Hur, with Bonus material. Same would apply in this case.  But I got shouted down, so go figure.

Both films are profiled separately.

I was just going to post that, as I've just got back from reading the Intervocative posts!
God, you guys didn't half waffle then... glad we don't argue for pages and pages on this site

Just to clarify (and I'm sure I'll find out if I've got this wrong), yes the 2nd film can have it's own profile as long as no information is removed from the main profile.

I was looking at my Ben Hur box 2 days ago and was wondering how to handle this because right now the silent version doesn't show anywhere in my collection.

I don't understand what you've said though, if I make the 2nd movie a child profile without removing anything from the main profile then I end up breaking the rule saying that features, cast, crew and other details are not to be specified on box set.

I thought I would have to create a box set with the UPC of the box and add 2 child profiles going with disc id's but then I didn't know where/how to put the bonus disc.

Basically, that's my understanding of it.

BTW, I have noticed an error in the latest update to the 1925 Ben-Hur profile. There is no break in the title "Ben-Hur A Tale of the Christ".

Not to worry, I have already submitted the correction.

Edit:

Here's a screen cap.

I don't have Ben Hur myself, so I may get this wrong, but the way I understand it is that you have the main film as the parent profile using UPC and you connect the 2nd film as a child using ID.

Edit: even though it has a child profile, I would have thought that the silent version should still be listed under "Features" for the main film.

Enough guessing.  Here's how Ben-Hur and others are handled.

The main profile should look like any other profile.  It's not a boxset.  The bonus movie is treated like any other bonus material on the disc.  You should handle disc IDs as you would with any normal movie.  Then those who want to stop there have a regular profile and don't have to worry about anything else.

For those who want to treat it as a boxset, the bonus movie gets it's own profile.  Then that is attached to the main profile.  You end up with the main movie as the parent profile and the bonus movie(s) as children.

The intention is that those who want to profile the bonus movie (since it has it's own cast, release date, crew, overview, running time, rating, etc.) can track that information and download both profiles.  Those who don't wish do this can download the main profile and it appears like any other regular profile and they can simply ignore the additional profile.

That should make everyone happy.  It doesn't of course, but it's the best compromise we have at this point.

But is it allowed to contribute the main profile as a box set, even though having the details on it breaks the rules for box sets ?

I did, and unless I'm missing something it doesn't answer my question.

Mark doesn't adress that! But no, it shouldn't be contributed, those who want the child should add it locally.

It is considered a 'modified box set'.  It is done the same way TV Series sets are.  Main profile contains all the information, child profile for the extra film for those that want it.  And yes, both are contributable.

I kind of think this is desirable. Otherwise how do you know if you have a film in your collection? Richard Pryor live in concert came with Stir crazy on another disk. If I didn't treat it as box set, I might have bought stir crazy by mistake or others might not know I had it when picking a film.
