Before you start shouting i don't mean get ride of it all together but in most cases is it needed? it seem to me that most of the time it is just a carbon copy of what is on the back cover so if there is a scan of the cover why also have the overview it's just duplication of information.

Because you can't use the filter to search the cover but you can use the filter to search the overview. Besides the scans in the online collection are not readable.

Because scans are usually hard to read, even the higher resolution ones.

Also nine, we have been around the horn with users writing their own summaries, and we wind up with I wrote a better one than the other guy so here's mine, and then somebody replaces that one, and so on with never-ending updates because of the overview.

I find the overview extremely useful. I don't often need it personally since I tend to know what my DVDs are about (maybe you guys in the 10K club may differ) But I print out coffee table books for people to browse to choose films, the overview lets them see what the films are like.

Following the thread starter's logic, we wouldn't have to enter any data printed on the cover at all. You can read the title off the cover scans, you can read the aspect ratio, video format, audio formats, subtitles, running time, and lots more.

Problem with that logic is that a lot of times the covers are wrong .

Oh no, let's not go down there and discuss correctness of printings and the need to correct those.

Let's try and keep this one simple: we enter the overview, copied letter by letter from the back cover into the appropriate field (probably for the same reason a dog licks his balls: because he can).

You just need to distract them with a squeezy toy or something so that they will let you get down there.

Oh, I've said too much.

You know what George Carlin says about dog envy.

If we could do what dogs do we'd never have to leave the house.

OK thought i would post this here rather than start another thread.
I am doing the overview for The Dalek Collection.

Dr Who and the Daleks sees Dr Who travel through space and time in the Tardis to find himself on Skaro, the birthplace of his arch-nemesis, the Daleks! Skaro is a planet devastated by nuclear fallout, where this hideously mutated Daleks have to live in metal suites to survive, and where they plot the destruction of the planets other life form, the Thals, with a massive neutron bomb the gentle Thals are doomed to extermination unless the Doctor can save them!

And for the first time on DVD in it’s original edit, Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 AD tell the thrilling story of the Doctor’s battle to save the human population of the future from being enslaved as Robomen doomed to serve the dreaded Daleks forever! The human race has never faced a greater danger as only the underground resistance movement stands in the way of total Dalek domination.

This special pack also includes Dalekmania, the definitive story of the Daleks, an exclusive copy of the original film poster of ‘Dalek Invasion Earth’ and a pack of Dr Who and the Daleks tracing cards to start your collection!

I'm not sure if i should include the bottom text about the film poster and cards.
BTW i know it says tracing cards and not "Trading" but thats how it is on the cover.

Yes, I would include the last paragraph as it's talking about an extra - and make sure you mention the spelling mistake in your comments when you contribute.

I would NOT include it for excatly the same reason.

It is an Extra Feature (which the Rules say not to include in the overview) and  is nothing to do with an overview of the movie(s)
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong
