If this has been answered elsewhere I apologise.

If a TV show has double-sided discs should we:

A. profile each DISC
B. profile each SIDE

As an example: the first few seasons of Murder, She Wrote were all double-sided. I'm inclined to create a profile for each SIDE of the disc...but is that just going to confuse the issue?

I think that's actually up to you! As child profiles for TV box sets are optional, it's up to you how much detail you go into. Though I agree with you, it's probably best to do both sides if you're going to be doing the discs.

For TV sets, one profile per double sided disc. We are only allowed to create two profiles for a double sided disc, if it features a different movie (not version or cut) on each side per the rules.
Another example why movie box sets and TV sets are different animals.

In my opinion... one profile per disc. Even though I am fully behind disc level for TV Shows.. something I been wanting ever since the boxset function was introduced... having 2 profiles per discs for TV Shows is in my opinion taking a good thing too far.

Pete, that sounds kinds weird to me. Why would it be going too far...? (FWIW, I already thought child profiles went to far in the first place, but let's not get into that here.)

The target is to profile everything as close to the medium as possible, so why stop at the double-sided disc. I say, let's go all the way and be done with it. (I almost cannot believe I just said that )

no real technological reasoning behind it what so ever... I just personally feel that one profile per disc is enough.... I just feel that there could be too much of a good thing. I mean you end up with twice as many profiles and images for each set just to break it down to side profiling. As much as I love going to disc profiling... I just feel side profiling is to much work for too little of an advantage.

but as I said... just my opinion.

I suppose it all depends on how many episodes there are on each side/disc.
If there are too many episodes, a disc level profile may look too cumbersome and data heavy, whereas if there are only a few episodes, a side level profile may look empty and wasteful.
It looks like the best bet is to make a judgement call on what suits the data best in this case.

This is true... I have seen sets with 4 episodes per side. (pretty much the norm for hour long eps.)... and then there is half hour eps where you can have 6 to 8 eps per side. I can see how this could get a little cumbersome on 1 profile.

but then on the other side of the coin you have something like Alien Nation: The Complete Series... where it only lasted 1 season... hour long episodes... but they chose to put double sided discs with only 2 episodes per side! I still haven't figured out what they were thinking on this one!

Exactly - that's why I don't think it's a good idea to say there's a set way of doing this, as what suits one profile would be inappropriate for another.
In this situation we have to rely on the contributor's common sense

Pete,

Thats what they did with Space: Above and Beyond. Most of the DS discs are two eps per side.

And I just finished earlier this week a major update on all those child profiles. It's a lot of work (for those who don't know how much time it takes). I have a new appreciation for those people who have done it before.

And that's strictly an arbitrary decision made at some point in the past.  There is no technical reason why you can't have more than one piece of video on a side now that we have dividers for both cast and crew.
