If it was something to simply display your collection on Facebook, how would that be any different from sites like phpDVDProfiler?

Who says DVD Profiler or Invelos for that matter is insignificant? How do you equate 500,000 +/- users as insignificant?

While I agree that sites such as MySpace, Facebook and others provide the "millennium generation" with a place to express themselves freely in a social environment, which in many cases that I have seen is a good thing, I have also seen a lot of disturbing material and practices on those sites which I find not only abhorrent and disgusting but also dangerous. Security aside, I would caution the developers of this program in exposing their trademark to such an environment. This, of course, is just one user's humble opinion .

It's not me who suggested that dvdprofiler's user base is insignificant :] (where do you have those numbers from btw?). But you can't argue, that there are still a LOT of people out there who don't know the program and might check it out if they saw it featured on a huge popular social network.

I neither come near MySpace - it just isn't my style (different target audience I guess). That said if there would be an opportunity for an dvdprofiler application on that site I would encourage Invelos to do it no matter how much I dislike it. It's business - not a matter of personal taste (man those nasty backgrounds plus hip hop music playing on most MySpace profiles are disgusting :D)

After all in some years time I bet this will all look different. You simply have to embrace new ways to communicate / stay in touch. I could care less what the other users on this site (which I don't know personally) do - I simply want to share my DVD collection with my friends and let 'em know which are my latest and greatest Blu-rays.

See you at the DVD profiler facebook group. I'll step up to the challenge to create a facebook fan page for this app / site in the mean time.

I don't know how exactly phpDVDProfiler works, but by its look - that was what I had in mind when I first requested this.

EDIT: Here it is - the facebook DVD Profiler page

Sondani:

The numbers were provided several years ago while we were still at Intervocative (the old company) and everything was ported over we clearly several years later are well to the north of 500,000 users how far would be pure speculation.

To be correct it was 500,000 accounts, not necessarily the same as users. Still a large number.

i'd like a facebook application as well, also some kind of html code to embend the collection in a blog or on a personal web page. It would be also a good chance to advertise the software itself

Over the past few weeks, I've occasionally thought of what it would take to make such a thing possible (since I've become a Facebook user).  Three things are required - access to a list of UPC's and access to cover images (small size only), and a external site that runs the code for the Facebook app.

It's possible to scrape the list of UPC's from your online collection and possible to access the images from Invelos but both of which would require Ken's permission (besides scraping not being an ideal method).  Ideally, an API would be utilized to fetch the information.  I've thought about the XML export but I can't think of any way to utility it.

As for custom lists, the only one currently available would be recently purchased as that's provided on your User Info page and limited to the most recent five (which turns out to be an ideal number) but that would be another scrape.

All said and done, I have the interest and the means to create such an App for Facebook.

Just some information that may be relevant to Invelos:

Facebook Pages Is The Community Platform For Businesses

The article talks about the importance of a business presence on Facebook.

I once contacted Mr. Cole to let some one from Invelos take over the Facebook page I've created for DVD Profiler (currently counting about 140 members).
Haven't heard anything back. It seems Facebook is something Invelos is not interested in the slightest.

Ken has never said anything publicly and over the years with rare exceptions does not. I suspect the reason for this is because, from a users viewpoint, a comment starts the clock ticking and if said app does not materialize in the time frame that is deemed by the users then they start getting annoyed. Ken made a positive comment about an IPhone App some time ago, and or whatever reasons the app is still in development and some users aren't happy about it. I would imagine that with the full plate that ken has with the core Program, the Mobile App, IPhone development and who knows what else, probably a redesign of the online, a facebook app may well be under consideration and development but beyond that, one man can only do so much.
