Any one interested in a plugin for vista media center addition that integrates your movie collections in a browsable format under MCE?

I know there is a plugin out already called My DVD Collection
http://www.mcesoft.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27&Itemid=82

But I thought some of you code hungry people might find a way to make the superior information from Invelos available on MCE

Maybe I'm the only person that has a HTPC and you guys will ignore me, but I hope someone could help out with this.

This is your lucky day:

(1) You are not the only guy with an HTPC
(2) We are not ignoring you
(3) What you want already exists

First of all, DVD Profiler already works on MCE and Vista.

If what you really meant was "Media Center", which is a component of MCE and some versions of Vista,
then you can put DVD Profiler on the "More Programs" menu following this simple trick:

(1) Create a file, using notepad, called Profiler.mcl (for example)

(2) In that file, type the following equivalent for your system:

<application url="E:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\dvdpro.exe" name="DVD Profiler" />

(3) Navigate to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Media Center/Media Center Programs and  insert the Profiler.mcl on the menu

Start MCE , go to More Programs and launch the button. You may get some security warnings which you can override and set for the future.

This is a small subset and watered down version of the information that you can find on thegreenbutton.com

specifically, this thread: /forums/thread/8909.aspx

Have fun!

It would be nice if somebody would post a really cool, clean .mcl file that uses all the bells and whistles, and has been tested under Vista. I tested mine under MCE 2005 only.
Thanks for your support.

Stupid short-term memory, I forgot all about this until I read the thread just now.

My mental PostIt pad ran out of those little yellow stickies.

I could have sworn I posted a reply on this.  I configured DVDP to run under Vista MCE (the instructions don't fit Vista FYI) but it only ran DVDP outside of the MC.

In Vista, just drag a copy of DVD Profiler shortcut under Accessories / Media Center / Media Center Programs, and it will appear in the Media Center "Program Library". And yes, about all that does is launch DVDPro into a separate window outside of Media Center.

What were we trying to accomplish anyway ... I've lost track?

I don't have a Media Center folder under Accessories.

My Movies has a plugin that displays movies inside Vista with covers.  Running DVDP as a standalone really doesn't accomplish much.

I do not have the time to fight DVD Profilers limited integration possibilities and MCE's outdated GUI API (yes, even the one in Vista is hopelessly outdated), so I have given up on creating a real plugin.

For now, I am getting along browsing the front covers as an image collection.

I split them up in genres using the tool I mention here:

Yeah running dvd from a link in mce doesn't really do what I hoped it would...
I want a plugin for Vista MCE that can tap into DVDP's database and display my movies from my collection... wether it be through the web? or through my local collection information... I would take either to be honest... as long as it doesn't look as crappy as invelos' default webpages...

The DVDP databases are encrypted so having a MCE plugin talk with it probably isn't going to happen. However, DVDP can export all of the DVD information and if a plugin was created to access this information and provided a network path to the cover images....

I'm working on something similar with a Yahoo widget.  Got the XML import finished, now just need to start working on the GUI.

If I knew more about what I was doing, I would do this myself.... but Dr. Killpatient...
How hard would it be to make a Gadget for Windows Vista that taps into the XML that would just display your collection similar to the plugin that came with dvd profiler?

or a Media center plugin that would let you search your collection's xml?

It's not an MCE plugin, but I'm working on a DVDProfiler plugin that uses the DVDP data to automatically generate .dvdid.xml files and DvdInfoCache files for consumption by Vista Media Center.

This will allow the use of the standard Media Center DVD Gallery to browse and play DVDs ripped to disc in the normal fashion, but all of the DVD Gallery information and images will be coming from DVD Profiler, rather than the AMG? library that Microsoft uses (which I find to be horribly inaccurate).

I have the thing basically working, and I did it primarily for my own sanity, so if there's sufficient interest in the plug in from anyone here I'll polish it somewhat and post it.
