Now that Ken has come up with the uncredited radio button (is that what you call it.

Actually they're "Check Boxes", you can see what "Radio Buttons" are by looking at NTSC vs PAL in a profile

As for the "Uncredited", I understand both points of view but one comment that was made bothers me.  Someone said something about "Unverified uncredited".  This was mentioned many times in the forums in the other websites and to me it always raises the same question.  How do I verify this, a profile says that John Doe plays some clerk at a gas station.

If John Doe isn't in the end credits and I happen to never have seen John Doe's face in any other movie in my entire life what am I supposed to do, remove him from the profile because I can't verify he's really there ?  Am I supposed to check IMDB, I am suppose to search all the crap that exists on the internet to see if I will find someone named John Doe that looks like the one in the movie ?  I'll bet you that 99% of the time, with a bit of patience I will find it, does this mean it's true ?

It doesn't appear to me as an easy task to verify Uncredited cast entries.  Actually in my opinion they shouldn't not even be allowed but that's another discussion.

It's next to impossible to verify, even when you know what the person looks like.  Many actors have included their kids in their films (John Wayne did it all the time) and seldom gave them a cast credit, and its hard to verify them even knowing what they look like.  I am vehemently opposed to uncredited entries for much the same reasons as Touti gives.  If they ain't in the cast credits then they don't belong.  Of course, if someone wants to include that tripe in their local DB, they're welcome to it.

I remind you once again, the developer of the program has included the ability to include uncredited in the main database, has provided for it in the Rules and has updated the program in 3.0 to use a check box for these entries.

It is perfectly clear that they want these entries made.

You are FREE to delete them from your local data base!!!!

Oh, that's great, Hal!  Some of these movies have uncredited lists as long as my arm, literally.  Why is my responsibility to remove them one by one when some yahoo scraped them off IMDB and didn't verify that they were actually in the bloody movie in the first place?

I'm still waiting for somebody to give me a really GOOD reason why they are in there at all.  And yes, that includes Ken.  What possible use are they (beyond the most trivial of trivia) when the director and producer didn't care enough to put them in the cast list?

I watch politics.  He isn't one or I'd know who he is.  You still didn't tell me who he is.

Why uncredited? Well some of the actors for whom I collect DVDs sometimes have uncredited performances, such as Bette Midler who is uncredited in Hawaii, Get Shorty and What Women Want. It's of value to me -- and yes it's trivia -- to have her listed in those cast lists as uncredited.

That's just one example.

Bess Flowers is famous for being uncredited. She's in more films than any other actor in my database. She even beats out Hitchcock.

Well, I don't feel anything in regards to you at all anyways. To me, you're not important. Whether you are alive or dead, I don't care. Never have, never will.

Richard Branson..

Founder of Virgin Records... Virgin Megastores
Founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Founder of Virgin Galactic
World Record holder of crossing the Atlantic Ocean in the fastest ever recorded time in 1986; the first hot-air balloon to cross the Atlantic, but was the largest ever flown at 2.3 million cubic feet capacity, reaching speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour (209 k/ph) in 1987;  crossed the Pacific Ocean from Japan to Arctic Canada, the furthest distance of 6,700 miles, breaking all existing records, with speeds of up to 245 miles -per hour in a balloon of 2.6 million cubic feet in 1991.

He's much more famous, and important, than you will ever be.

And much more. Google him if you want. My work is done.

He was also in Supes Returns, John. All I ask is that such additions be documented, I haven' watched Casino, yet, the closest I have gotten is listening to it (sort of). But when I get the time to watch it, if Branson has not been listed I will add him with the accompanying time stamp. Not a big dea, John, I recognize lots of people that others don't and I am sure they recognize people I don't, hence the need for documentation.

That is exactly my point. As I said, I am not against uncreditd cast entries in general. In fact, I think it's great being able to add the appearances of Alfred Hitchcock in his films or, let's say, Clint Eastwood in "Tarantula". I even wouldn't have a problem if someone added an actor I have never heard of but who is important to the contributor.

My problem are the "third hobbit from the right" entries, that, let's face it, constitute 99% percent of the uncredited cast. Please leave these out !

The problem is we are having wholesale removal of uncredited cast.  Those people that didn't want them and, quite rightly, couldn't remove them before are now removing them without documenting anything.  They have gotten around the rules by contributing a brand new profile.

It would be a great new feature to optional in- or exclude the display of cast entered as (uncredited).

You are damn right, Jogi !

Oh, and by the way: Obviously everybody around here has forgotten Ken's "legendary" statement about uncredited cast in the old IVS forum. After that we decided NOT to use them for new profiles unless personally verified. Well, since we're dealing with new contributions here and since it is not possible to give any verification, obviously the people USING uncredited cast are the ones who break the rules.

Personally, I don't care if somebody else wants them in their personal database - I just don't want 'em in mine.  Stuff that is already out there fine, but at least we should have a check box or something to dump that stuff on the fly if we don't want it.  Of course, no such entries in new (by date) profiles just like before unless you can document them.
