I have a DVDO Edge video processor and intelligent A/V hub that converts standard definition 480i DVDs to 1080p high definition resolution. http://www.anchorbaytech.com/dvdo_edge/ How good the up-scaled image looks is very dependent of the quality of DVD. The higher the bit rate of the DVD into the video processor the better the up-scaled image looks. (Garbage in = Garbage out, & High Quality in = High quality out) I went with a video processor because of the large quantity of DVDs in my collection. I also have some HD-DVDs, to bad the format is dead. Blu-ray discs still cost a premium price, and the quality of the lower priced Blu-rays (even from major studios) is not always the best. |

Although all of my VHS's are in storage bins now. If it is a new title and I just kind of want it, a lot of time I will buy the DVD. |

I draw the line at VHS.  I agree with Patrik; I collect movies. I don't have a HD DVD player so I don't buy any of those. And my LD player is busted, so I don't watch laserdiscs any more. And after the latest equipment upgrade my VHS player isn't even connected to my AV-amp... I guess I might buy a VHS and connect up my player if I found something that I really, really wanted (and that isn't available in any newer format), but I'd be hard pressed to think what that would be. I still buy lots of DVDs. There must still be at least ten times as many DVD titles released as BD titles. And with a good upconverting player/TV, many DVDs are quite good enough for me. And, as many of you have said, TV shows. I just recently got Ironside seasons 3 and 4 from Australia. I still pick up bargain bin stuff from Play/Sendit etc and it's impulse by then and that's DVD too

And I still buy generally TV shows in DVD because I think the Blu-ray doesn't bring something valuable compared with DVD. | | | Regards
