| | Posted: | | | | Well I have taken some time to reply in this thread as I have been absorbing all that is new in the last 2 updates. With the latest update, the 16x9 Enhanced, Blu-Ray 3D fields have now been enabled for Custom media types. YIPPEE!! HOORAY!! Thank you muchly, DVD Profiler god.
Downside though, and I admit I forgot to mention it at my last request, I would have loved the NTSC/PAL field enabled as well. I just don't understand why ANY field would be disabled for those of us that want to use the "Custom Media Type" selection.

The format settings are left over from the days of watching DVDs on 1.33 NTSC tube TVs. The term "full frame" is virtually meaningless in Blu-ray. Citizen Kane is not really "full-frame" on a 16:9 screen, it's just a 1.33 movie.
Using full frame to describe 1.78 material on a blu-ray doesn't make a whole lot of sense, either. And I doubt that there are more than a few BD titles that are Pan & Scanned (if any), so that term is archaic.
In short, the distinction between Full Frame/Pan & Scan/Widescreen is only really relevant on DVD.
I suggest disabling/hiding the Pan & Scan/Full Frame/Widescreen selection for Blu-rays (and HD-DVDs). We only really need to select the aspect ratio of the source material. Leave the settings in the data (and on screen) for DVDs only. |
