I know what the rules state but I'm also looking at what's being contributed. I've done a search but can't find any definitive answer on how to submit TV Series.

Should each disc of the series be created as it's own profile (containing the relevant cast, crew, features) or should only the 1 profile be created for the whole set?

The rules state not to create child profiles, but there does seem to be quite a few entering the database.

That's easy. TV-Series are not Box-Sets, so no Child-Profiles.

That's what I thought. So why have child profiles for each disc of Alias seasons 4 & 5 (R1) been submitted and accepted?

as your thread title says a definitive answer is required from Invelos to once and for all get this resolved.

All we can do is wait till it comes, and listen to both sides debate why they're right.

Or the individual discs are available to purchase seperately in the same cases that the boxset contains (UK Friends boxsets, for example).

There's a thread pinned at the top regarding specific topics we need Ken to address. As of now, he has not.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

Actually, the rules say MULTIPLE COMPLETE TV SERIES, not season.  So it would have to be all seasons of more than one show to be a "box set".  If it were multiple seasons only, then it wouldn't be the "rare case" that the rules mention.

The term "SERIES" is interchangeable with "SEASONS".  In at least the UK they use SERIES in place of SEASON.

Yes it does say that but if you look at the top of that page it defines what is meant by a TV Series as:

Quote:
    * Complete Series/Season sets
    * Anthologies of Episodes that do not form a complete series or season.

So any multi-season TV set would be a boxset.

EDIT - Beaten to it by Hal!

That's not a definition, it's just a statement of how TV sets come bundled.  If it were a definition it would say "A TV series is defined as...".

Hal,  They are not interchangeable.  A season is one season of a series.  A series is the entire collection of every episode of a show.  I know they use different terms in the UK, but I don't own any region 2 anyway, so no biggie.  But for region 1, a season is not a series unless the series only ran for one season.

The term SERIES was used inadvertently, but it clearly means SEASONS.  The Rules do not make any sense otherwise.  Who bundles multiple "SERIES" (Friends, Cheers, Buffy, X-Files) together into one unit and sells them?  Nobody that I know of!

That's why the rules claim it's rare.

Because despite what the rules say, that's the way most people want those sets done.  There was a tacit agreement to do them that way some time ago, although some people will tell you I'm lying on that.

Believe the evidence you see in the database (the profiles that exist there).

SERIES = SEASON.  Almost every major TV show that has multiple seasons/series and is now off the air, can be gotten in a megaset like this.  They are decidedly NOT rare at all.  BTW, the Buffy series (all 7 seasons) was one of the first to be available that way, more than two years ago.
