Doesnt say if Warner would go Red or Blu though. If they go blu I agree it might be the end of HD DVD (once Paramounts 18 months are up), but if they go red, I still think Sony and the Sony properties will be too stubborn to give up. I'd think, after reading it, that this was kinda a choice for HD DVD, since Warner said something about the price of stand-along players, and the consumers not `wanting` to choose. I'd guess you could say Warner might go Blu, but everything points to Red... to bad since blue is my favorite colour | | | Jean-Paul |

| Posted: | | | | Blu-ray to Figure Prominently in Largest-Ever PS3 Marketing Campaign Sony is gearing up for a Blu Christmas, saying its emphasis on the PS3's Blu-ray playback will be "much more aggressive" in its new holiday marketing campaign. In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Sony Marketing SVP Peter Dille said the new campaign is scheduled to break this weekend in conjunction with the US introduction of the new 40GB PS3, and is slated to be the company's largest-ever marketing effort for a hardware platform. The exec described the new campaign as having a "high-energy, entertainment driven focus," with the console's Blu-ray playback a key component. In a separate interview with GameDaily, Victor Matsuda, VP of Sony's Blu-ray Disc Group explained that the campaign would "focus on the convergence of the PS3 as a movie and game device" and that it was "a big part of the corporate strategy for promoting Blu-ray Disc this fourth quarter." Matsuda went on to say that the company was considering bundling the PS3's Blu-ray remote (which is currently being sold separately) to help further emphasize the movie playing aspecs of the hardware. Although the PS3 is by far the best-selling playback device on either side of the high-def format war (and has propelled Blu-ray to a nearly 2:1 disc sales lead over HD DVD year-to-date), opponents have argued that the console's achille heel is its "attach rate" (the number of Blu-ray discs owned per unit). Matsuda said Sony itself was paying particular attention to those numbers, and the company planned to release "very positive" information on what percentage of people who buy a PS3 use it for Blu-ray Disc playback and with what frequency in the next few weeks. I clicked on the link to the Toshiba player and it asks for an area code, when I typed it in it listed the Wal-Marts near me, does that mean the Toshiba player will be available here??? | | | My Collection!!! | | | Last edited: by Calidain |

| Posted: | | | | Someone inside Sony answering a question about BD+ being cracked.... Quote: Q: Anyone have any comments about Slysoft's claims of cracking BD+?
A: We expect that BD+ will be cracked on a given title if smart hackers decide to focus on it. The benefit of BD+ is that we can change the scrambling method on a title by title basis, so they have to work on each title to break it. If this is not generating profit for the hackers, what is the motivation to keep doing it? | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | I believe the sale is only through the weekend and in-store only but still. My God, that magic less than $100 has been reached. Anyone looking to purchase a DVD player this time of year would be nearly insane to pass up that deal. I mean, if you're going to dump $100 on a upscaling player anyway why not just get the actual HD version for the same price...These things are going to fly. Too bad aI don't need another player! Although I might pick one or two up as gifts, if I can get them. I checked one of my local stores and neither had them nor would they say if they would have them tomorrow. I saw about 7 other people looking for them and asking questions. This could be the start of a beautiful two month stretch for HD... |

| Posted: | | | | The information I read says it is a company wide initiative, both online and in-store. They are sold out online and don't even have the product page up any longer. This is the full story from HDD...
In the immortal words of Crazy Eddie, Best Buy is now offering Toshiba's entry-level HD-A2 HD DVD at a price so low they're practically giving it away.
Coming only a week after retailers almost universally dropped prices for the 1080i player below the $200 mark, Best Buy has lowered its price on the player to just $99. This latest price drop from Best Buy follows this morning's news that Wal-Mart would offer the same player for just $98 as part of a special in-store sale beginning this Friday.
There is a hitch, however. Although Best Buy's website listed the HD-A2 at its new low price earlier today, it also stated that the player was sold out. Some consumers have had better luck finding it at the chain's physical locations, but there too, many have reported that the player is out of stock.
At press time there was no word on whether new allotments of the player would be offered by Best Buy.
For those unable to find the player at Best Buy, there's still Wal-Mart's $98 "Secret In-Store Special," which kicks off Friday at 8am, although be warned: promotional materials state that the player will not be available in all Wal-Mart loactions. |
