This is MY FINAL post period,  I am finished. You people are not intelligent enouigh for me to asssit any further in any way. I have had it, someone wants to shut me up with the rutation System, I RIGHT nopw have something close 160 entries, yes that means that someone is voting on ANYTHINGH I say. I'll not go so far as to single users, though it is tempting trust me. I AM absolutely FINISHED, no forum post , no Contributions, no NOTHING, the idiocy of this place is astounding. My data wii now be exclusively MY DATA. There will be a DVDVProfiler that WLIL be the most accurate databaseof its kind in the world, but it will not be Online, that courtesy of a bunch of idiots is an impossible dream, it will be right here in MY COMPUTER. Good bye and GOOD RIDDANCE.

I am sorry I wasted so much time trying help the single most ungrateful bunch of people it has ever been my displeasure to know.

Bye , now.

Skip

And he wonders why people give him negative votes...

Much as I appreciate the work skip has put into this and do not want him to stop contributing to the database, I will not be sorry to see is bitter, bile-filled (and, to judge from the spelling, alcohol fueled?) forum posts disappear.

That "alcohol fueled?" comment was really uncalled for...

Especially with capital letters, or when using a keyboard without accented letters, an apostrophe is sometimes used instead of it in Italian, thus E’ instead of È "[he/she/it] is", though this is considered (at least) inelegant and inaccurate.

True, we sometimes use whatever tick mark we can  to show that the preceding letter is an accented letter.
If your keyboard lacks the "à", you could write "a'" (apostrophe/single quote) or "a`" (grave accent mark) or even "a’" (right single quotation mark), but it's however intended as an accent mark. I think they are just different graphical representations to show the same accented letter, thus the letter at the end of "Doro Corra'" or "Doro Corra`" or "Doro Corra’"  would be an "à" all the time, unless you really want to transcribe the exact mark shown on screen, but that's not always an apostrophe!
For instance, that text in Wikipedia ("thus E’ instead of È") actually uses (right single quotation mark, Unicode U+2019), even if they call it an "apostrophe".

If an actor's name was misspelled, we would keep the misspelling intact in the database, something like "Loenardo DiCaprio" (or, as he's got other credits under his belt, "Leonardo DiCaprio [credited as Loenardo DiCaprio]"). This case is no different, and we'd be required to to use "Doro Corra'" for the credited name. If she(?) has other credits, it might be "Doro Corrà [credited as Doro Corra']", but that would depend on the lookup tool.

Yes, it's wrong, but we have to keep errors that actually appear on the DVD.

Possibly so. I'll admit that I don't know skip well enough to have any right to comment on something like this (and I won't be surprised to get negative votes for it), but his spelling and grammar normally seem to be excellent, and then, for an evening or so, his posts become almost illegible. As I say, it's almost certainly unfair of me to draw this inference, but it's just what came to mind.

Not that there's anything wrong with drinking and posting, anyway.

Note that is says especially with capital letters, not exclusively. It also says that it is considered inelegant and also maybe inaccurate to use the apostrophe instead of the grave accent - but obviously it is being done, as in the screencap I posted.

Even though an on screen credit is spelled incorrectly (or if there is an incorrect use of an apostrophe instead of a grave accent), that doesn't mean we are supposed to correct it based on grammatical rules. We are supposed to go with AS CREDITED, and then use the Common Name/Credited As system for situations like this, IMO.

Maybe you are right. We could of course also interprete the thing that looks like "o`" to be actually a "ò" just looking like a "o" followed by a "'" because the used font looks so ugly out of a technical limitation. Maybe this is considered far fetched by others but I do like this interpretation similarly to the interpretation that what looks like "T4Xi" is not a text but a logo.

The man who gave name to "skipos"? I don't think so. He has always had too much to say to go back and proofread his posts. Not that I mind if people don't spell perfectly. The message is more important than the spelling, although sometimes bad spelling tends to lessen the impact of what you have to say.

Well, maybe I was just fortunate enough to have generally caught him on a good day. In which case, I hereby unreservedly revoke and rescind any negative, demeaning or insulting comment I may have made about him. I should not have jumped to the conclusion I did, and I apologise unreservedly for doing so.

I've been thinking it over and maybe you guys are right on that.

To be honest, "Corra'" is not exactly a misspelling like "Loenerdo DiCaprio" would be.
I'd say that the "a'" there" is just a non-standard way to write "à", by combining a plain "a" and a ' (the apostrophe/single quote character, but in some circumstances a ` back tick ASCII 96 can be used, or even a  right single quotation mark  like in that text from Wikipedia).

Having said that, I see your point in wanting to report it as close as possible to what you see, and I can settle with that.

It isn't considered far fetched by me. In fact, it was my initial reaction to the screenshot at hand.

Sorry, I am not clear which interpretation you refer to. How would you enter that screenshot?
By the way, how would you enter "Æon Flux"?

I would prefer that films are entered by what they are called.

You wouldn't refer to T4XI as "teefourexi" or something similar, you would refer to it as "Taxi 4", so that's the name I would like to see. But that's just me.

"Æon Flux" is tricker...

It seems simple enough to me. Æ is an actual letter in the Latin alphabet which is used in English (though rare in the American dialect), and "Æon" is a real word in the English language. Therefore, there is no reason not to enter it as written.

There is a version of "Æon" that does not use the ligature, but it is "Eon", not "Aeon"; the latter being neither a real word, nor what appears on the cover. Changing it to either of these would be, quite simply, an error.

Right, Gunnar.  Skip has been accused of a lot of things -- many deserved, many more undeserved -- but having excellent spelling and grammar isn't one of them.  I think he feels that content is more important than presentation, but sometimes it's hard to decipher the "skipos".  [No offense meant, Skip.]

Interestingly enough, I got two red zingers for this post.

So, for those who posted those votes, I'd really like to know why you voted this way.  Feel free to use PMs (unless you are Skip, and then you can't).

I stated my skepticism to the statement quoted above.  And guess what?  I had every reason to be skeptical, as has been borne out.

No doubt, more red zingers are on the way.
