Oh can you still drive using your senses. I knew a South African guy that was near blind and could still drive cause he done defensive driving on the beach when he was learning. So he had razor sharp senses. |

| | Posted: | | | | Pete, have you heard of the Jordy?Yup, they're named after the Star Trek character because you do where them like you would Jordy's eye wear. My dad was virtually blind by the time he was in his late 50's, early 60's and while he liked his talking books, he really missed doing a lot of things that involved eyesight. A big one was that he couldn't see the tv (and we had a huge one where he only sat a few feet away). The Jordy plugs into the tv and you see the image right in front of your eyes. You can be sitting however far away the cords let you. You can also bring it to the movie theater or a recital or wherever, though if you move a lot, it does tend to make you dizzy. You don't have to be plugged into something to use them which is nice and they're fairly portable. I have no idea the price anymore (he had his several years ago...maybe 6 or 7) and was able to get his through the V.A. I do have a feeling they might be pretty expensive, but your insurance may be able to at least help out with the cost. It really helped him his last couple of years. | | | | Lori |

The other eye corrected to not quite 20/20 with my glasses. But I have such a blind side with only 1 eye they won't let me have my license without surgery to correct the issue. Insurance not covering surgery and I can't afford it so...

Not a bad movie... entertaining and has a few chuckles in it... but really isn't much more then that. I am not sure how I feel about the Santa outfit she got when she became the new Santa. | | Posted: | | | |  Ms. Scrooge A contemporary version of Dicken's A Christmas Carol featuring a female Ebenita Scrooge. My Thoughts:Another TV Movie I recently recorded of cable. Mainly because I read that Katherine Helmond ( Who's the Boss) is in it. But also because I always liked the story of A Christmas Carol. This re-imaging of the story is not the best I ever seen... but it was entertaining enough to keep me watching till the end. I do wish Katherine Helmond was in it a little more... she played the part of Marley's ghost. As I said... not great but entertaining. Definitely not something I would watch every year. | | Posted: | | | | There's a lot of different Christmas Carol adoptions. Back in 2000 ITV made a modern day Christmas Carol with Ross Kemp. Never seen it but was apparently rather good so going to keep an eye out for that as it's not on DVD.
Like a lot of great stuff from ITV, like The Last Train or Cruel Earth as it was known in America and Canada. It never makes it to DVD. |

Rerun Van Pelt sure does! As the youngest sibling, Rerun finds it hard to pry brother Linus from his security blanket and relate to crabby sister Lucy. This Christmas all Rerun dreams about is getting his own dog. But Rerun's mom doesn't think him responsible enough and Charlie Brown won't part with Snoopy. So when Snoopy's brother Spike visits, Rerun determines to adopt him, but is the youngster prepared to care for what one character calls "part beagle and part disaster"? My Thoughts: I picked this one up last year, so this is the second year we've watched it. It's a decent cartoon, but its drug out a little long at 41 minutes. They really should have aimed for a 30 minute special ... but I guess they couldn't get enough commercials in at that point. This cartoon will never measure up to the classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (which we'll watch later), but it's another excuse to spend some time with the Peanuts gang, which is a good enough reason to watch it again. | | Posted: | | | |  Title: ScroogeYear: 1951 Rating: NR Director: Brian Desmond-Hurst Stars: Alastair Sim, Kathleen Harrison, Mervyn Jones, Hermione Baddeley, Michael Hordern Overview: Alastair Sim's tour-de-force performance as the ultimate miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, has almost single-handedly made this beloved version of Charles Dickens' story into one of the best-loved Christmas films of all time. Some of Britain's best filmmakers united behind Sim, who was joined by a delightful cast of accomplished and acclaimed English actors; creating what many today believe to be the best and most faithful production of Dickens' immortal tale. Cranky and curmudgeonly Scrooge learns the error of his unkind ways and is taught the true meaning of the holidays when he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner and the spirits of Christmas past, present and future. My Thoughts: IMO, this is the definitive version of Dickens tale. Sim is perfect as Scrooge. His performance is absolutely amazing. You understand the character from the moment you see him, that he is a hard, miserly, and miserable man. It also boasts a great depiction of Victorian London and isn't overly sentimental or sweet, but has always seemed the truest to Dickens. But Sim is the heart and soul of the picture, and he carries the film easily. We used to hope for this to come on television when I was a kid, and it generally did at some point (and we had to hope it was a channel we got decent reception), so having the DVD ... and now the blu-ray ... is a perfect addition to the library. A definite watch every year. | | Posted: | | | | Title: Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReindeerYear: 1948 Rating: NR Director: Max Fleischer Stars: unknown Overview: You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen... Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen ... but do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all? This short cartoon was originally produced in 1947 by Max Fleischer for the Jam Handy Corporation, in fact one the last cartoons Fleischer produced. The version we generally see is the re-release, from 1948, that includes the famous song. That's certainly the only version I've seen. My Thoughts: This is available as an extra on the DVD of the Alastair Sim film (the Deluxe Special Edition version) and isn't on the blu-ray, and it's the sole reason I've hung onto the DVD. It's a cute little cartoon that follows the story without any extras at all. It's no match for the Rankin-Bass claymation classic, but it stands up pretty well if you like old cartoons. | | Posted: | | | |  Christmas Comes But Once A Year At an orphanage, the children are sad because they received broken toys as gifts. Professor Grampy sees the children while passing by in his sled and has an idea on how to give them a merry Christmas. My Thoughts:This is an animated short that is in the Holiday Family Collection putt out by Mill Creek Entertainment that I got today. This set is actually a bundle of 2 previous released sets... Holiday TV Classics and Holiday Family Favorites. This is a very cute little cartoon. One that is before my time... but I do remember watching toons like this when I was a kid. Though they were obviously in reruns at the time. But I must say... they don't make cartoons like this anymore... and was an enjoyable blast from the past. It really reminded me of a simpler time. I got a kick how they made all the orphans in this animated short look exactly alike... except just changed the hair and night gown colors. Well all except the one infant orphan... but that one was barely in the short. And yes this is an early color short... as you can see by the screen cap above. My Rating: 4/5 | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | |  Holiday Wishes Danni Hartford, party planner to the King family, wants to find her sister. Britney, the Kings' spoiled 15-year-old daughter, wants a horse. On a nearby horse farm, Rachel is treated like a servant by her foster siblings; all she wants is a real family. When all three girls make wishes at the Christmas dance, Britney and Rachel's souls switch bodies. But the girls soon find their new lives are not exactly what they pictured. When Danni discovers what has happened, she must figure out how to switch the girls back. My Thoughts:Another TV Movie I recently recorded of cable. Mainly because I read that Amber Benson ( Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is in it. But the storyline sounded like fun as well. And this one I really did enjoy. Sure there was one big part of it that was very predictable... but another part of it did surprise me... so it's all good. This is one movie I wouldn't mind getting on DVD and watching each year... but I don't think this one is even on DVD at this time. My Rating: 4/5 | | | | Pete |
