Greetings from Aveleyman.com

I see I have been raided by you fellows...

Want to pool resources?

cheers
TS

You can easily collect the screenshots we've compiled by downloading two things:

1. The DVD Profiler program
2. The file in the first post of this thread

You'd then import the downloaded file into DVD Profiler and you can then grab the headshots from the actor profiles.

You'll also need to add at least 1 DVD to your database so you can gain access to the full cast & crew lists in Edit mode.

There's no easy way to extract the headshots from the db except for screen caps.

Is it not possible to copy & paste? I've never tried it myself, but assumed it would be possible...

Yeah it's possible. I do it all the time. You even get the full quality picture and not a down-sized version.

Note: It's not possible from a DVD profile. You either have to be in the cast database, or double-click on an actor from within a profile.

I don't understand what you say isn't "possible from a DVD profile."  If you're in the layout screen, click on an actor in the cast window, you'll open a new window with all the profiles that actor appears in in you database.  This window has the actor's picture in the upper left corner.  If you right click on that picture, you can add, copy, or clear the headshot.  You can also do this when you're editing a profile.

So when is it you CAN'T copy and paste the image?

Immediately from within the DVD profile. If you single click an actor you get his picture dislayed within the DVD profile. You can't copy it then. If you double-click the actor, you get that actor's filmography as it exists in your collection. You can copy it then.

I see, now.  You get the same filmography if you single-click on the "Cast Information" box beside the actor's photo (under the Birth Year data) -- at least on the layout I use (Invelos Default - High Resolution). -- without the need to double click.

When I integrated the database with my Profiler, I was amazed to find that it contained even very obscure favorites of mine like Vladek Sheybal and Gabriella Licudi. Now that it's spoiled me, I'm annoyed when I see that it fails to include Grant Withers, Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Sidney Blackmer, Sig Rumann, Elizabeth Russell, Alan Mowbray, Eric Blore, Douglas Dumbrille, Michael Sarrazin, James McEachin, and Christine Belford.

I notice that the database integrates wtih Profiler even actors who are not in any of my DVDs so far. In a particularly curious instance, I found that the son of silent swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks was missing a shot, but this was because of the presence/absence of a comma before "Jr." Based on prior experience I tried to delete the alternate form (with the headshot) so that I would get a warning of which titles were using that form, but evidently none were -- the name was deleted without further ado, so now I have to find a Fairbanks Jr. headshot for myself.

I suggest, if your database is clear of unneccessary birth years, to contribute your database along with these new head shots.  It could benefit to many others, including me.

The headshots database has many of these curiosities, for different reasons.  This is a good track for improving the quality of the data, using the credit lookup table (CLT), checking the data itself to get rid of the older IMDb-like data, and so on.

By the way, if you want, you can remove all unreferenced head shots from your database using the Repair DVD Profiler Database utility, with the option to remove all unreferenced head shots.  The drawback of this option, is when you will add a new DVD profile, you could miss one head shot present in the original database but not previously used by you.  It is your choice.

you can right click on the name and select "Show Credits" - and this will show where the actor is included in profiles in your collection

Importing databases is a time consuming process, even more so when there's multiple databases to import.  I was down to one left but Surfer just send me another one.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the beast, it's not something that can be easily split up at this point.  The next version can be split up though and I wouldn't mind help with that.

However, you can improve things dramatically in creating a manual profile and assigning any updated cast/crew to it.  Then you can create a new database, restore a backup of the headshots into it with the one manual profile, and then delete all cast/crew that aren't assigned to a profile.  This will have two main benefits - a database small enough that you could submit over email and I only see new headshots.
