I've been going through my updates and have noticed that if while previewing an update if I unlock the disc while in the preview screen, then the update won't actually replace the newly unlocked disc info.

It won't then refresh the disc info for that profile until you exit/restart dvdprofiler and again update that profile.

However, if instead of unlocking, I quit out of the 'refresh updated profiles', select the profile in question, unlock the disc info and then do a preview or refresh that profile it will then refresh the disc info.

Now of course I've got loads that claim there were updated and actually weren't

I never unlock the disc info for updating. I simply choose "Partial Update" which lets me override the locks and tick the check boxes anyway. So far it seemed to work as advertised...

except when the program falls over (access violation) whilst updating.  I had wondered if this was because I used partial updating to update a cover scan that was locked..

Well I think I've found the issue. Part 'user error' maybe, but also 'part bug' for sure.

As I'm going through updating all my profiles, the first thing I've been doing is in the 'refresh all profiles' window is 'select none'. No way I was going to do all 1700+ in 1 sitting.

I then preview each profile and lock/unlock anything I want to protect/unprotect and click 'ok. Note I've not selected 'accept all unlocked', 'accept partial', which actually means the default is 'accept none' as I had previously done a 'select none' in the 'refresh all profiles' window.

Then however, back in the 'refresh all profiles' window I've then been checking the 'refresh profile' check box for that profile. However, it then doesn't actually cause it to get refreshed. I checked 2.5 and it does behave the same.

So, there's me specificially telling it to update the profile and its not done it.

If you do 'select none' then check 'refresh profile' for 1 profile and click 'ok' and then do 'online->Refresh DVD from Invelos->Preview Profile' you'll see that nothing needs updating. So it did it.

The problem is only if you do 'select none', then preview a profile, just click 'ok' in the preview window and then check 'refresh profile' in the 'refresh all profiles'.

Anyway, I am almost sure I have done this to a few profiles recently and can naturally not remember which ones that were Wondering now if I should restore a recent backup and do it all over (haven't really done that many yet, wanted to let the wave of CoO stuff etc. slow down first...)

I noticed the same thing yesterday.  I work the same way ajm does and noticed that many of the profiles that had CoO updates, according to the preview screen, did not get updated when I refreshed the profiles. .

AJM:

Aren't making this a little more complicated than it should be? The partial accept system works well, and overrides the locks anyway.

For me, the option to hide updates for locked fields is not activated (which anyway wouldn't make much sense to me, seeing as I have almost nothing locked), and then I do partial accept. Just click what I agree with, and skip what I don't. Works like a charm for me.

Unless I've misunderstood what you are saying.

I guess I've always done it that way since before we had partial updates. I reviewed the profile and then checked the box in the 'refresh all profiles' window rather than in the individual profile.

It's clearly not a new 'feature', but surely if you check the box in 'refresh all profiles' that says 'refresh profile' it should actually refresh that profile, no matter what.

I must admit, that pre 3.x I normally didn't do a 'select none', but there isn't another way of going through all the updates I've got to do. I decided to wait a month for things to settle down before updating my profiles.

If you don't preview it works, if you do preview it doesn't.

Andy, I just tried this:

I first did "Select None". I looked at an update profile but didn't do anything (so not even changing any locks). Then I canceled out of the preview and selected the check box to refresh the profile in the list.

Would that be the procedure you described...?

However, the profile information was refreshed when I clicked OK.

Then I did the same for another profile, but this time I locked the Cast and unlocked the Crew. Then canceled out again, selected the check box and clicked ok. YIKES! The Running Time updated correctly, but he Cast did update (even I locked it in the Preview) and the Crew did not (even I had unlocked it). Also, the locks didn't stick (I remember something like this was a problem in 2.5.)

So I did a third test. I refreshed the profile from the second test and tried again (same locks/unlocks). But this time I selected Accept Partial and clicked OK when leaving the preview. Now the profile had the grey check mark in the list and upon clicking OK it refreshed as desired.

O.k., maybe the above is hard to follow, so here is what I got out of my test:
The locks you change will only "stick", if you actually click OK when you leave the preview. If you click Cancel to leave, the changed locks will be activated!

So, maybe in your experience mentioned above, maybe you were unlocking more stuff than you were locking and by canceling out, they didn't stick, so that the profile couldn't be refreshed...?
