I got confused earlier today since my DVD count shows 307, when I know I have 341 DVDs. Upon a little investigation is appears what is labelled as DVD count is infact a count of the number of profiles in the database.

I did a search but couldn't find anything relevant.

You obviously have some boxsets or other child profiles that aren't being included in the profile count.  As it should in my opinion.  Same way I do it.

This is correct and as it always has been, though it's fait to say you're right that it is slightly mis-named.

It is not possible to give a proper 'DVD count' because different people have different opinions on how they should be counted.

eg. Some count every disc, some count every profile, some count every film (so bonus discs don't count), some count each case... it's up to you!

This is why many people have different numbering methods using Collection Number (I, for example, for movies don't number the boxset, just the films within (I don't number bonus discs either)... however for TV series I number the boxset of the whole series not any (optional) child profiles)
