| Posted: | | | | If the Sort Title is blank and the sort type is by title, the entries without a Sort Title are sorted together and not as desired. Planet of the Apes (blu-ray) is an example of this.
I copied the Title into the Sort Title field and it sorted correctly. However, when I tried to submit the profile change, the submit process reported that it couldn't detect any change and wouldn't let me continue. |

All but two of my DVD's in which the profile was downloaded from Invelos had the sort title already filled. So if it's not stored in the database, the question is how did these two profiles not have a sort desc and the rest did? It affects the sort of your online library as well. I added the short titles and uploaded my collection and now it sorts properly there too. |

| Posted: | | | | I think the Sort Title is set on the very first contribution to the database (because there needs to be somehting there when people download) but it isn't checked for being different or able to be updated after that. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

That sounds very stupid to me. Why then not just always leave it empty in the online profiles ? If someone would make a first contribution and messes up the Sort Title (e.g. a typo) it would be there indefinitely ?! |

It is best this way as many users like to 'sort' their collection in various different and often bizarre ways. right click on a title Personalise Then change the sort title at the top | | | |

Because when it is downloaded it would be put to the top of the list and require the user to add a sort title every time. It may be that this was a small bug that got fixed (IIRC adding a new title didn't auto-fill the Sort Title in the original 3.0) and may only be an issue for a few discs already in the database. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

I know and I even remember way back when this was changed (it used to be in the online profiles and I remember having corrected many of them). However, I don't understand the bug report here that profiles with empty Sort Title are all grouped together ?! In my database, a lot of profiles don't have a sort title and those are just sorted based on the actual title. @Voltaire: that's why I think it makes much more sense to just always have an empty sort title in the online profiles. This will make sure those will be sorted based on the actual title. IMHO it's better to have nothing (which has a nice behavior anyway) than to have something that may be wrong and can never be corrected anymore. Edit: now that I think of it, I may be wrong. I think I'm confusing with 'Original Title'. I don't have DP with me here, so I would have to check tonight... | | | Last edited: by hevanw |

I don't believe it's possible to have a blank sort title. I've just done a test, one is assigned as soon as you create a profile, and if you try to delete it, the data gets repopulated. Once a profile is accepted into the database the default download sort title is always the title minus any articles (a, the etc...). So should always be 'correct' from a title point of view. This can be an issue if it's accepted with one title e.g. Ghosts of Mars, which is then corrected later to John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. Generally I find it better to have the sort title default as I don't want to enter one for every title I add. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |
