Missing Online Profile List

Hi, I have a problem, hopefully someone can help me out.

I have DVD Profiler 2.5. When I left for vacation, the program was working fine. But when I came back yesterday, I noticed it was acting weird. When I first turned it on it showed that I had no DVD's in my List. After restoring the backup (or whatever its called) that was working just fine.

I found the next problem when I tried to add some of the new DVD's I have. My Online Profile List is missing. I dont know why or how its gone, but it is. And since I have the old version, I can't simply download the old profile list. I know I need to spend the 30 bucks on getting 3.0, but for the immediate future that is impossible. Is this profile list located in some file? IF so, what file would it be. If its a file, would my girlfriend (who has the same version as me) be able to send me the files I'm missing. Or am I just screwed until I can afford the 30 bucks for the new program?

Thanks for any help.

If you had 2.5 and not 2.4 you had the Beta version. That means you had already paid for the program. If this is the case you do not have to pay again.

Your old collection is still there. It can be found at:

FYI - information on how to upgrade can be found HERE

I never paid, just used the free version. So maybe I had 2.4. Sorry about that.

And not that collection online collection.

The Online Profile List I need is. . . is the one you use to select your movies. You know, you click add new movie, start typing in the UPC or the title and it brings up various movies depending on what you typed in.

The title of the list makes it confusing (because it sounds like the online DVD collection), but thats what it says its missing and needs for me to add anything.

If I'm reading this right I'd be concerned about the integrity of your hard drive. Have you noticed any other programs behaving oddly?

Suggest you run a virus scan & scan disk.

My virus-scan is coming up clean, I'll run ScanDisk tonight.

Everything else seems to be working just fine.

Small word of warning...

The online profile list for 2.4 is no longer being updated  with each new release week so if the discs you wish to add are newer than say  an April 1, 2007  release date then the online profile list for 2.4 will not help you much. If you really can not afford the $30 for the program, you may want to spend some time creating these profiles from scratch until you can afford it. You can still use the program. Its just a little more time consuming.

Good luck
Brian

Does this happen when you want to add a DVD?
Is it asking you if you want to refresh the profile list before continuing?
And if you say yes, are you getting a download error?
If you are it's because Profiler 2.x isn't getting profile updates anymore - if you want to add DVDs they have to be added manually.
You can still use version 3 for free, with limited features though.

I know the list isnt being updated, but the program is acting like I dont even have the list on my computer.

Some more detail. Here is what I'm doing.

1. Opening DVD Profiler
2. Clicking on Add DVD
3. It asks me if I want to refresh the online list.
4. I click no, because you cant refresh it.
5. It then says, "The Online Profile List is required for this option, and is not yet downloaded. Download now?"
6. I click no, because... you cant download now.

Is this list saved to any particular file in the Program files? Something my girlfriend could send me and I insert into my files? That maybe I, someone else, or the computer itself accidently deleted the profile list that I'm missing. Does it work that way?

And, Scandisk came back clean.

You're looking for files called onlinelist.dod and dvds.dod which are usually installed in "C:\Program Files\InterVocative Software\DVD Profiler Beta\data"

It's odd that they've disappeared, but it should be ok to use your girlfriend's - they'll be about 18Mb in size each.

Thanks, Northbloke and everyone else.

Hopefully I can get those off of her when she gets home from work. Hopefully this fixes the problem.
