--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this is a horrible place to post this, but I cannot access google.com. Is this something that is widespread or is it something gone awry on my end?

It's about 9:50 PST 9/21

Let this thread die quickly I just want one person to verify either way, thanks.

I've already searched everywhere else I know and I can't find anything. I know this forum is somewhat active.

This is what I'm getting:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems

I can access every other page though.

Works fine for me. Try clearing your temp internet files and restarting your browser.

I'm getting a ping response similar to yours giga, however google.com is not coming up at all. I've tried IE, Mozilla on both my desktop and my laptop. I've also tried accessing google.com from the ps3. I get nowhere from any of the places.

Are you using a proxy to access the web by any chance?

you can perfrom the same thing as ping plotter with the command "tracert google.com" without quotes.

I am guessing it is a DNS issue.  Google.com is not being resolved. Ty this. Ping google.com and type the ip in your browser. Google.com returned the IP of 64.233.167.99. It's different than giga's because of geo location; however the 216.239.59.99 still returns google.com on my browser as well.
If this nets a result you know there is a DNS issue. If you have a router try cycling the power or flush your DNS cache by typing ipconig /flushdns from a command window.

try at dos prompt: ipconfig /renew
blocking www.google.com:
- internet filtering software? shut it down and try again
- software firewall?disable firewall
- your router? reboot
- spy ware? spybot search & destroy

It works now. I hadn't tried resetting the router or modem since my wife was in the middle of an xbl game, but I checked it again and now it works. My wife said it wasn't working earlier in the morning for her either. I'll probably end up resetting the router and modem anyways. I haven't done that since I set them up about 18 months ago. Thank you all for you help. Good night

Interesting to note that "www.google.com" and "google.com" return different IP addresses for me.

One thing to try if it happens again is to flush your local DNS cache.

Open up a DOS window and enter "ipconfig /flushdns"
