probably a fairly simple question, just wanted to get peoples opinion on it

when a box set child uses the same disc (the disc id matches) but the profile it matches is by UPC, should a new profile by disc ID be created if the packaging is slightly different (only obvious difference is no upc on the case and its a THINpack versus a Keep Case.

If the Profile it matches is for the single release then yes. Create the child profile with the Disc ID.

Agreed
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

If the Box Set individual discs have no UPC on their cases then you will use the DiscID to profile them.

If the individual discs are packaged with a case that has a UPC then you need to use that for your box set.  If individual disc is packaged in a case containing the same UPC as the retail version but the cover art is different then the version that is released first is the cover art we use.

To clarify the specific case (I have 3  box sets that this comes up on)

one such set is the Predator Triple Feature (024543-438250)
it contains Predator, Predator 2, and Alien Vs Predator.

None of the cases have separate upc's. I put the 3 discs in the drive and got the folllowing results:

Predator - found a matching profile by disc id
Predator 2 - found a matching profile, but the profile is by UPC (no by disc id profile exists)
AVP - same as Predator 2

Since the disc ID is the same, I figure they just slightly repackaged the same disc from the sold individually release for the box set (slim case and no upc on back cover)

So to me it seems like the info should be the same since its the same physical disc, but that its profile should really be done by disc ID. But then I was thinking, since the only real differences is no upc, case type, and cover scan that its not really necessary to add what is essentially a duplicate entry to the database just submitted under disc id. Hence why i posed the question here to see what the consensus was.

Create new discID profiles for the last two movies and use the existing discID only profile for the first movie.

If you don't want to recreate the entire profile from scratch you can download the profiles the are using UPCs.  Then modify any of the data that belongs to the one you have such as cover art, case type.  Then use the change UPC/discID function and change the profile to use the discID instead of the UPC.  Then contribute the new profile for others that purchase this box set.
