Why would "1408" be before everything, and shouldn't "50 First Dates", "8 Mile" and "8MM" be before titles such as "300" and "3:10 to Yuma"? How do I fix this so that the titles are in proper numerical order? Should I change the sort titles to 1, 2, 3, etc.?
On the subject of titles, what is the recommended filing order for titles that contain a person's name, ex. "Criss Angel: Mindfreak": The Complete Season One", or "Robin Williams: Live on Broadway". Do I arrange them by show title, ie "Mindfreak" / "Live on Broadway", or by last name? Is one way preferred over the other?
Finally, I have a number of movies with slip covers, and have found that on a few titles the UPC number on some of the slip cover is different than the UPC on the keep case/back cover. Which number should I be using?

On sorting titles I can at least tell you what the "problem" is. The titles are sorted on characters, not on numbers. Therefore you get 50 behind 300 (because of the space after 50).
The way I have solved this is to assign collection numbers in such a way that the sorting is the way I like it, in my case I look at how the number would be spelled, so e.g. 2001 A Space Odyssey comes somewhere behind the letter T.
As far as sorting on names is concerned, I make sure that my collection is sorted on surname (e.g. James Bond is somewhere after B) or on the name as a whole with certain series of movies (e.g. Die Hard, Monty Python, etc.)
As far as I'm concerned the filing order is a personal preference and will not be the same for everybody.

These two are related, and as apltm says, it's related to characters in the sort title field. However, the sort title is purely local, so you can adjust it however you like to get the result you want. For example, in the examples you state, it looks at the first characters and sees 3, 5 and 8 and puts them in order before even looking at the next character. With respect to names in the titles: for the title field (for the online database), use what's on the cover. For the sort title, use whatever you want to get it where you want it in your collection. Again, it's a local only field so do what you like. Quote:

If you're adding to your database and the outer UPC isn't recognised, try the inner one - that might have been submitted. Simply download that one and change it to match your DVD. For titles that begin with a number I've added leading zero's to get them to sort properly. For example, I would change the sort titles of the dvd's you mentioned to 1408, 0050 First Dates, 0008 Mile, 0003:10 to Yuma, etc. I don't have any dvd's with more than 4 numbers at the beginning so this works for me.
