Well, I am running into a strange situation here.

I corrected, removed or added  a few genres on some DVDs.

For example on the Rambo Blu-ray I made a genre only contribution and added "War" as genre. I got 34 yes votes and 0 no votes, even skipnet voted yes

The contribution got approved.

So far so good.

I did that with some other titles too. All titles got only yes votes besides one, that is King Kong.
A user voted No, he said genre only contributions are not allowed.

Well, now my two questions.

For example, there is a title in the database where everything is correct and complete besides the genre is wrong. It is added as comedy, th in reality it is a horror movie.
So according to this guy that said "no genre contributions only, according to the rules", it would mean it is impossible to change the wrong genre to the correct one.
This seems pretty stupid to me.

And second question or remark.
If genre contributions only are not allowed, why did I get 34 yes votes on my Rambo Blu-ray one and why did it get apporved then ?

if there really is this rule existing; i think it is kinda useless and should be removed.

It makes it impossible to correct some mistakes.

I am curious what you guys say about this, as i said even skip voted YES for my genre only contribution.

cheers
Donnie

Rules for Genres:
Quote:
Genres are often a matter of personal interpretation, which can differ among users. If your personal preference for Genre differs from the main database, you can store the information you prefer in your local database and lock the Genre field from further updates. Do not make contributions that only change or re-order Genres, unless the existing Genre list is blatantly incorrect.

If something is listed as a comedy but is actually horror... that is covered in the rules... it is blatantly wrong... so allowable by rules to fix.

As for adding a genre only... that is something I personally wouldn't do.

Yes you can submit genre contributions if you are only making changes to them. Here is what the rules say:

Now I personally don't have either Rambo or King Kong (2005) in my collection, but if you just added a War genre to Rambo that would be correct. As for King Kong I would think it would be more of action/adventure movie, not horror or comedy. I came to that conclusion after reading an Entertainment Weekly review seen here.

I just added fantasy to King Kong HD-DVD, most other King Kong DVds already have fantasy as a genre added.

But thx for your help so far

Curious what others think.

Because genre can be so subjective for so many people, it really is best to make your changes locally and then lock them down.  Slightly off topic, but I've also noticed some folks seem compelled to use all 3 genre slots whether they're needed or not.  I presume because they can and these folks abhor a vacuum.
