This profile has had some updates to it with source being the actual disc. What I am confused about here is according to the release date in our database and online stores, it comes out tomorrow (7/22). So how are people making contributions for this title with the disc as the source? Did it come out early (if so i would think the release date should be changed as part of these updates). Did people somehow get advanced copies (if so shouldn't they maybe mention it in their contribution notes).

Both contributions also have all yes votes, so do all those people actually have the disc too? Just a little confused as to why its not being questioned at all when (as far as I can tell) the disc isn't out yet.

It is common for online stores to ship titles so they arrive to you on the release date. To do that they send them out a good week or so before release date... and depending how the mail is running you can possibly get them a little earlier then you are supposed to. This does not change the release date that the DVD has though.

I think the earliest one I ever got was one of the Scooby Doo Live Action movies that I bought for my daughter's birthday... it surprisingly arrived a full 2 weeks early.

As for voting... a lot of that goes on faith in the person that is submitting it... If I knew the person's work and never had a problem with them I would take it that they did everything correctly to the best of their ability.  And I believe this is how most people think.

I agree this must be the case. Online stores regularly send an email that an item has been shipped well before the release date, and I often receive US releases on the same date as the Tuesday release over here in the Netherlands (mail doesn't arrive on Mondays anyway, otherwise it could even be earlier).

Of course, if customs decide to intefere, the transport time increases by at least a month...

Also some of our profilers work at stores that sell DVDs, the stores get them early so they get stocked for sale by Tuesday.
DeepDiscount got in trouble for shipping a Harry Potter, although the book, early, awhile ago.
I too have received early, but it is very rare.
I live in the West, so shipments from DeepDiscount, DVD Pacific, stores East of the Mississippi always take 10 to 14 days.

Amazon has shipping center or something here in Phoenix, so most new release arrive onTuesday.
Last week an Amazon shipment came in a Target box

Most stores get discs 2-3 weeks before street date I think, I know I've seen many at Best Buy and also a now defunt "mom and pop" shop have almost everything out 2 weeks before street date. They come in boxes with instructions not to sell before the date, but many break this. I guess they could get fined, but nobody really cares.
Best Buy may've been popped, I used to see lots of things (mostly obscure horror) early but haven't seen many if any early releases lately. I'm also not looking as hard so maybe that plays into it. That mom and pop would have blockbusters early but was also grossly overpriced (retail plus 10-20% I'd guess) for new stuff, but fair on used discs so I'd keep going there.

Another way is to get cast/crew info from screeners. A friend of mine orders for the area Borders, so he gets tons of screeners (mostly DTV Lionsgate and Sony films) which he let's me and a few other buds check out. These won't have the extras or disc ID and most have pop-up warnings and black and white spells. Oh yeah, only 2.0 audio with no subs either and most remote functions disabled (esp during opening trailers, logos, etc.) But they do have the full movie, so cast, crew, CoO, production companies, screen format and runtime can be got from them.
