Burnout Paradise - coming to PSN
+ Posted by Jeremy Chubb // Producer, Criterion Games

Massive news this week, here on the Burnout team!

Today we’re proud to announce another PlayStation exclusive for Burnout Paradise. This fall, we’ll be making the entire game available for download via the US PLAYSTATION Store. You’ll finally be able to join us in Paradise City without leaving the comfort of your home, and you won’t have to get up to put the disk in!

A big thanks to the folks at Sony for making the future of video games a reality now. We’ll announce a release date soon, but in the meantime, it’ll look something like this:

The download will be $29.99, but it’s not the disk version of the game we originally released back in January. This is an all-singing, all-dancing version complete with all the free packs so far. Here are some of the highlights. All new game modes, like Online Marked Man and Online Road Rage. Awesome new vehicles, including the Hunter Olympus and Nakamura Rai-jin Turbo. 70 all-new challenges featuring against-the-clock gameplay and leaderboards plus the in-game calendar and news page.

You can also read the story on Criterion's site (the game company, not the DVD/movie company ) here:

Burnout coming to Playstation Store

I must say, after letting this game collect dust for 6 months, I stated playing online a couple weeks back and have been having a blast.  I've gone from 0/420 online challenges to 410/420, got my 101% and unlocked the final car (it's awesome).  10 more challenges and I'll have my 102% complete and be ready for the new Bikes add-on coming in a month or so.

I wonder if owners of the disc version can somehow install it on the hard drive then as well or download for free, or...

Anyway, I keep reading how Mark is having a blast with the game, I better get on top of it soon. (It is collectiong a bit of dust on my shelf right now...)

That would be awesome.  It would be nice to start up a game without having to mess with the disc.

That said, I don't see it happening.  Because if I could download it for free, then what's to keep me from selling my disc back to the game store?  I'd probably get back half my original investment and still have a copy on my machine.

Do you remember what it was?

I've completed everything now except for 4 8-player timed challenges.

4 player challenges

4: Milling Around

Every driver jump all of the others using the old mill house.

I know I jumped the two of you, I was the third and the 4th guy who knows. It showed the other guy jumped three, but you and I never had success it seemed.

Three people need to go in the bridge area.  Then one person jumps them.  Repeat for all 4 players.

The problem is that there was no order.  We had two or more people trying to be the jumper at the same time.  So they weren't jumping over everyone.  Or people were too close to the edge causing the jumper to crash.  Or not getting enough speed to clear everyone.  That's why coordination is important.  It's best in those types of challenges to jump in alphabetical order, but most people don't.

The other problem is that if someone got taken down, when they respawn,, they usually are outside of the jumping area.  And in that challenge, that means when you respawn, you'll probably crash into the next guy trying to jump making things even worse.

In those types of challenges, try not to take anyone down, since that really screws things up.  Wait your turn to be the jumper.  Or wait until there's no one else is ready to jump.  Once you get the hang of it, it's not too hard.

I'm now just 2 challenges away from getting all 420.

I guess that why you had read before that using a heradset online is extremely helpful. ...do you have one by now? I am still wondering what I should get. The local stores don't really have what I am looking for.

I only have around 20 completed so far, but hey, only played twice so far...

Yesterday I sepnt some time clearing some of the in-game "challenges" (billboards, jumps, fences). I am planning to find as many as I can myself and then eventually use the feature on the Criteriongames website and have them show me which ones I am missing. (Like: I drove around Downtown for 45min or so and couldn't find the last billboard in that area)

I have lots of catching up to do and have a lot of fun doing so these days

No, I don't have a mic yet.  Haven't been looking, but I did finally discover their most important use.  When I'm in a room with no mics, people come and go.  It's hard to get people to stick around.  But when you're in a room where multiple people have mics, it seems to keep others entertained and they're much more likely to stick around and play.  It's a lot less boring that way.  And if you can get a girl in your room with a mic, you've got it made.  Desperate guys will hang out for hours to race with a girl.

And of course it would help with organizing things when everything is really chaotic. Or to tell people to start playing or give assistance if they don't get the challenge.

I'd like to get one, but I want a good one.  I've noticed that some people sound crystal clear and others produce nothing but static.  I can see them talking, but don't hear anything but background noise.  I have no idea what's good and what's crap however.

Good luck finding all the billboards, jumps and whatnot.  You get new cars when you find them all.

In other news, I was about to give up last night.  It was late and a very unproductive evening.  But at the last minute I got 8 decent players who helped me with my last two challenges.     I had a girl with a mic and several other guys with mics and it really made all the difference in the world.

Maybe I'll look into one at some point.  There is the new add-on coming soon with motorcycles, day/night cycle and weather effects.  But it will also have 70 new challenges I believe.  So that would come in real handy.

I know how that feels

Actually, when I was trying to get that barrel roll done one of the others sent me a message using the XMB, but I was too busy trying to actually read it at the time So yes, I cann see how it would be helpful.

I also only get the static when the people with mic talk, but I figured that it just "translates" vwrong to the sound system...
