There are a lot of new Blu-ray disc contributions with german locality which updates only the disc ID.
The Profiler version for the contributions is 3.1.1.1171 but the 'ability to generate disc IDs from Blu-ray and HD DVD discs' is a new feature added to version 3.5 and contributions with that version are not enabled. This means that the disc IDs are copied to the release version or are faked.
Are these contributions valid or not?

I would say they are not valid. I don't know how they are achieving this, I have tried to copy and manually input Disc ID data without success.

Is it possible they are adding the disc id and then backing up in 3.5 before restoring the backup to 3.1?

I would give it a try but don't have a Blu-ray drive in my PC yet.

It is possible to copy and paste Disc ids. I would say that that is likely what is occuring between the versions. Very clever if you ask me.

Well I've learnt something new today.

No reason why they shouldn't be contributed as it really is just a case of right click & copy, then right click & paste.

Well that is so long as Ken has it enabled at his end and I suspect it's never been switched off.

Just checked and while the copy and paste functions are available, they don't seem to work. They must be getting them in with a plugin or through a back door somewhere.

It can certainly be done, I've been very deliberately not doing it in case it introduces a problem for the DB before the 3.5 fields are properly contributable.

I agree, we don't know what the process they are using to get the data into the profile is actually doing to the info itself.
I would vote no, and ask them to patiently wait for 3.5 and official support for blu-ray disc IDs to released.

I'd not noticed that I had voted yes to a disc ID on a Blu-ray. I've now changed it to no until 3.5 contributions are turned on in case they cause issues.

I've just given this a go, and it works. If I submit a hi-def profile that I've aleady updated in 3.5 from within 3.1 then the disc ID is included in the submission.
It is highly likely that there is nothing wrong with the info, but I still say we play safe and wait for the proper release before submitting.
Although it will mean we'll have to be more vigilant about voting as we may not notice that it's a hi-def profile with an ID we're looking at.

Hmmm  that is interesting, north. The disc id restores back to 3.1 exactly?

You don't need to do any backup/restoring.  Just open the 3.5 database using version 3.1.  There's nothing different about the DiscID field itself, just the applications ability to read it off the disc.

I found this out the day I downloaded the Beta and briefly thought about contributing the DiscIDs, but then thought better of it.  Even though it appears it would work without any problems, figured better to wait for the official release.
