| Posted: | | | | I am seeking ways to backup a copy of my hard drive partition to either CD or DVD. What applications or options are available? I saw VSO Software online, but I’m not sure. I am running Windows 98se so the program would have to be compatible. Online backup systems might be a good option, too but I’m not sure. Any advice would be great. “Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense.” -Gertrude Stein |

When you say "backup a copy of my hard drive partition", that tells me you want to back up everything in case of a drive failure. In that case, an online backup probably won't be your solution as they tend to back up specific files that you specify and judging on the size of your drive/partition, it could take hours if not days to back up based on your Internet connection speed.
Regardless, it would be a hell of a lot easier to purchase a USB hard drive and back up to that. If you're only concerned with certain files, a large USB flash drive will do just nicely.
For full partition backups, I would recommend a program that can provide initial full backups plus incremental backups (only changed files). That way, if you have to restore, you restore the full backup and then the much smaller incremental backups. One program is Norton Ghost. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |
