Ken, so here's an interesting one for ya:

As I've documented in another thread, I was having issues syncing with my Mac via Parallels for Mac. I had set up my database brand new on my iPhone and then attempted to sync it back to a fresh install of DVD Profiler desktop client. It was sending 60 titles and that was all, then the app on the iPhone was closing.

After deleting the database on the desktop and attempting to re-sync the iPhone to it, it again only sent 60 titles--the same 60 titles.

I then decided to keep those 60 on the desktop and delete the app from the iPhone. I reinstalled the app to the phone, did not scan any titles in, and attempted to sync it with the desktop, using the same settings from before. It quickly connected, skipped "sending" and successfully added all of the 60 titles to the phone.

I immediately went to my catalog and realized a significant thing: the 60 titles that were being synced from the phone to the desktop those first two attempts were the first 60 titles I scanned in the first night I had gotten the app... my entire top shelf, minus the single movie I had missed scanning. I had, the next day, scanned the rest of my 144 Blu-rays and HD DVDs and none of those additional movies were being sent before the app was crashing.

THEN I tested out the sync feature by adding a single movie, re-syncing, and checking out the results:

First, I saw that movie added back to the desktop and got very excited. Then, I looked at my phone and saw that the desktop sent it right back to the phone and I now have a duplicate entry! I attempted to rate just one of the movies on the phone and re-synced, and when it came back, both entries of that movie were rated.

Of course I'm not a programer, so my theory could be completely wrong, but it looks to me that there is a problem when someone starts their database on their phone and attempts to move it to the desktop client... which you may see a lot of with new people discovering the app.

Edit:

I have now added a few more movies via the app and they have all been synced back to the desktop without issue--no duplications. Also, I deleted the one that was duplicated and re-added it without issue.

Syncing was working both ways... editing in the desktop app as well as on the phone synced back to the other side.

As soon as I added watched info to a movie and attempted to sync, it failed. App closed at the same spot it was closing on earlier at the "sending" section of the sync.

I had added a viewing the same way on the earlier attempts, perhaps that's what caused the sync back issues?

In adding the viewing I picked from my contact list on my iPhone the users.

I've added users via the desktop app and added viewings from the iPhone with no issues.

It's really beginning to look to me like stuff originating on the iPhone causes problems when syncing to the desktop.

I can test more to see if starting a new database without adding any viewing information will sync successfully to see if it's just adding users or if it's starting the database, but I don't want to take the time to do that unless I know that Ken is reading this and that it would help him out.

In another post Geri confirmed issues when adding users from the phone rather than the desktop. As I did this both times that a sync issue happened, I am assuming that this was my issue as well.

What if you have added users and movies and watched info and realised it broke sync with the desktop. Is there a way to remedy it without deleting and staring over?

I would assume that it would be fixed in the next update, and when installed it should fix the sync issue so you don't have to start over.

Though starting over was easiest for me than to wait.

Also, I'm speculating.
