| Posted: | | | | I recently purchased a DVD w/UV copy, and to redeem it, I need to go to sonypictures.com/uvredeem. If I get a movie from say, Universal, am I going to have to use their Website to redeem and subsequently view it? I wanted to have just one account somewhere on the Cloud, such as UVVU, where I could have all my UV copies, but is this possible, or is each studio doing their own thing? For example, if I sign-up with Paramount, will I be able to redeem and/or view a movie that's from Sony? | | | Mike |

| Posted: | | | | ^ Two years ago for Father's day, I said that I'd like to have "Fudgie the Whale," an ice cream cake Carvel used to advertise that time of year for dads. Only thing is, she didn't remember it was from Carvel, and went to three (I think) Baskin Robbins to try to get it. She couldn't figure why none of them had it. She was such a great sport, we all had a laugh about it and the incident has found its way into family lore. | | | Last edited: by CalebAndCo |

However, I have ordered a hamburger at McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and numerous other places that sell hamburgers. I'm inferring from your statement that UV "copies" are proprietary, in that they're associated with the studio the movie came from. I was under the impression they were essentially generic, and UV was basically just storing your "license" to that movie, in the Cloud, so you could subsequently Stream (or even download) it anytime (and to assorted devices) you wanted to, and I could establish a central repository for this purpose. So, for clarification, I do have to establish several different accounts with several different studios in order to Stream my UV copies (assuming many of them will be from different studios) and there's no way to have just one generic account for this. Is this correct? | | | Mike |

| Posted: | | | | That doesn't sound right to me. But I looked at my account and only saw Warner titles and Paramount titles. Sadly, I've not really paid much attention to my UV account, but it seems like everything is there. On the other hand, I don't honestly have a good idea of what "everything" actually is. So there may be things missing that I don't realize should even be there. I just enter the codes so I have them down the line in case I ever find a need for my digital copies.
In short, I suggest any questions about your UV account should probably be sent directly to them. Clearly you're getting much in the way of useful help here. Not surprising given that this site is pretty much all about physical media. Digital media is catching on very, very, very sloooowly around here. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Is this correct? At this time you will need an account for each studio all linked to your UV account. However, this is slowly changing where you can redeem UV codes at other sites like Flister and Vudu. In the meantime I would suggest still having an account for each studio that offers UV redemption. However I found the best stie to watch all of your UV library is Vudu and Vudu will let you redeem codes from other studios like Universal, Lionsgate, Warner, Sony and Paramount. | | | Are you local? They try to set this stuff up to "offset" the users who turn to software that has been around for years (like SlySoft) which actually works for the consumer's benefit.
And they expect people to think this is better? | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |

However I found the best stie to watch all of your UV library is Vudu and Vudu will let you redeem codes from other studios like Universal, Lionsgate, Warner, Sony and Paramount. I setup my UV stuff last week and I haven't had to setup anything with the studios. Currently I have accounts setup with Ultraviolet (uvvu.com), vudu, and flixster.com. The uvvu.com account seems to be the main account others use to determine your library. You can also add "members" to your account on uvvu.com to share your movie collection and setup parental controls by MPAA ratings for young members. The second account type is for the video player. I use vudu to stream the movies to the home theater TVs. I have flixster because I use it as the content streamer on my Android device (Samsung Galaxy S3). Flixster allows you to watch it streamed or download the movie to watch offline when you are not connected to the internet (e.g., on the plane). | | | Last edited: by nohkul |

| Posted: | | | | The individual studios who put out the video media (DVD, BluRay, etc) have you go through their respective proprietary websites in order to add UltraViolet digital copies to the UltraViolet storage cloud. The passcode you type in for a Sony movie to do this means absolutely nothing when considered in the context of Universal Studios... and vice versa.
By conducting the transaction in this manner, it accomplishes a few goals:
[li]It allows the respective studios to collect marketing information from you (and about you) as you're redeeming your digital copy It allows UltraViolet (really just a consortium of studios who have agreed to support the UltraViolet approach to managing digital copies) to avail itself of any responsibility when it comes to preventing piracy of the digital copies [/li]
It's my understanding that (most) Samsung BluRay SMART players manufactured in 2012 and beyond possess the ability to add your movies (when inserted into your player) to your UltraViolet collection.
An interesting limitation is that if your movie comes from a studio that is not a part of the UltraViolet consortium, then you will not be able to add that movie to your UltraViolet collection.
You can also go to Walmart and (for a nominal fee) provide them with your DVD or BluRay disc and they can upload it to your UltraViolet account. Again, the same limitations about this only working for studios that are a part of the UltraViolet consortium. |

| Posted: | | | | Strangely, I use Flixter's UltraViolet site. Seems to have allowed me to enter any UV code that I have had to use. Works in the UK at least. And you can use the Flixster App to watch (and download) copies on Android (And I would assume iThings) Hope that helps | | | Signature?
