| Posted: | | | | So I have the Blu-ray release for Uptown Girls. On the back cover it says it's rated R for Sexual Content and Language and while the details are correct, it's actually rated PG-13. So, for the database, is this treated like a spelling error in the overview or taken online (i.e. filmratings.com)? |

| Posted: | | | | From my research online, there is no R-rated version of Uptown Girls, so yes it is actually rated PG-13. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | I only know it from here, but are there (for example) trailers for other stuff on the discs which may be rated higher than the actual movie/series? |

| Posted: | | | | Not sure but there's only the film's trailer on this disc and in any case, I can't recall and instance where trailers attached would change the main feature's rating.
FWIW, the DVD release from several years ago have the same running time and on the back says PG-13. It's highly likely Olive Films has a template for these releases and forgot to change the rating. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | Well, in that case will keep it local and lock (as PG-13). If someone wants to correct it (as it's already in the system as PG-13), then by all means... | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

I don't understand why you even started this thread if you had no intention of making a correction. --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | I was just curious how it'd be handled as I've never seen such a case. There's nothing to correct as the film is not rated R. As I said, someone else can submit and I'll just vote neutral on it.
I did put in an e-mail to my contact at Olive Films to notify them of the mistake for future pressings. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | Perhaps the rule as quoted by Scott could be amended for such cases in much the same way as is the case for other cover data which are in fact wrong (region coding, running time, video format etc.) - something like
"Use the Rating shown on the DVD cover, unless you can verify there is a discrepancy with the actual film rating. In such cases, the actual film rating should be submitted and your verification method should be included in your contribution notes." |

Paraphrased as "Use the information on the DVD, unless you don't." Remember the purpose of this app is to profile the product, not necessarily the content, warts and all. |

| Posted: | | | | No, that is not an accurate paraphrase at all - i mentioned verification twice, didn't I?
And while that maybe the purpose of DVDP in your perception, in mine it should provide accurate data, in particular when cover data can be proven to be wrong. Current contribution rules already support this for various fields. |

Current contribution rules already support this for various fields. The rules allow for data on the disc to sometimes overrule data on the covers. They do not allow us to correct misspellings in the overview even though we have access to a dictionary. Even if "cover data can be proven to be wrong", it's still "accurate" to faithfully record that data in a profile. --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | True, however the opposite is true for region coding, disc features, video format, running time, audio tracks and subtitles. In that sense, the overview is the exception rather than the rule. Hey, I'm not claiming that the contribution rules are the most consistent set of rules in the world, nor that I'm happy with the rules on the overview, for that matter. |

| Posted: | | | | I have to agree with scotthm on this one. As the rules are now it must come from the cover.
As for there being a rules amendment... that would need to be discussed and voted on in the rules committee forum. Then submitted to Ken for his final approval. I do see difficulties in a change to such a simple rule we have now in there being multiple cuts to a lot of movies and you would have to prove which cut you have. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | That is true. I've decided to leave the rating locked and if it's contributed as an R-rating, then so be it.
Thing is, not sure if I've seen this before (a mistake that is). Like I said, there are no other cuts to Uptown Girls, it was always PG-13. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |
