The credit for The Day the Earth Stood Still looks like this:

In fact a lot of his credits should be under Wardrobe Direction (according to imdb) which isn't a valid credit according to the contribution rules.
In my opinion all those credits should be invalid.

Since the credit rules state, "Do include 'Supervising' credits in the above categories", and since a director supervises, I don't see this as being invalid.

Can anyone tell me, what this guy's job is/was? What the heck is an (executive) wardrobe director? ... especially when listed along with a regular costume designer...

According to some film sites he was the head of 20th Century-Fox's wardrobe department from 1943 to 1959.
So I assume he wasn't actually involved in designing costumes for every film he's credited in but had more a supervising role in all films produced by 20th Century-Fox in that time.
