I have always contributed – and seen this mentioned in others' contribution notes – dual format releases without the 16 x 9 anamorphic box being checked because, although they are dual format, the primary "selling point" is normally Blu-ray (DVD usually goes as a child profile) and that does not have anamorphic. As there is nothing I can find in the rules specify whether it should be checked or not, I was wondering what the consensus opinion was.

I never check it in Blu-ray + DVD Combo packs either, leaving it only in the DVD Child Profile. It is not automatically checked in the Program by default either. It will actually even be unchecked by the program by default if you manually add it and then switch back and forth between Media Types.

"Anamorphic" has no real meaning for Blu-ray (no specification for it even) — so it seems pointless to list it in the Blu-ray parent since all of the other DVD specs are left out also. That's what the DVD Child is basically for.

I think where it states this in the Box Set rules basically covers it:

Quote:
Sets containing the same film on multiple media types (such as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack) are to be entered as a normal profile for the main media type (Blu-ray in this example), with all included media types checked. A combo which includes HD media (HD-DVD, Blu-ray) as well as DVD should use the details from the HD media in the main profile. However, you may add an additional profile by Disc ID for the DVD content and add this profile to the Box Set contents for the Blu-ray profile.

The one thing that needs to be fixed is the default of being forced to choose either "NTSC" or "PAL" in the Blu-ray parent of Combo Packs. You have to choose one or the other, even though it also technically only really applies to the included DVD.

Thank you for your detailed reply. I agree with everything you said, including this part I've quoted.

I would also like a way of standardising the disc descriptions so there isn't a variety of "Main Feature (Blu-ray)", "Main Feature (BD)", "Main Feature (4K Ultra HD)" "Main Feature (4K)", "Main Feature (UHD)", "Main Feature (Ultra HD Blu-ray)" etc.

It's very simple with standard definition profiles because it is just "Main Feature (DVD)"!
