I'm currently profiling this:

I'm uncertain of if I should include War of the Worlds 2 as a child profile. As you can see, the cover calls it a bonus movie, but it is presented on equal terms as the rest of the movies in the main menu. In fact, it comes first.

It seems like a disservice to leave it out (and just mention it in Other Features), but on the other hand it would seem odd that "3 Disaster Movies" has 4 child profiles. And the current title for this profile is Weather Wars/Scorcher/Miami Magma ...

Any thoughts?

In reviewing the contribution guidelines this is what it mentions:

Quote:
Create the profile for the main feature in line with the standard Contribution Rules with the title of the Bonus Feature Film added to the Other Features field. Create a child profile for the "Bonus Feature Film" using its individual UPC if available or use Disc ID (read on a DVD-ROM) if not available. If the Disc ID is already in use, create an alternate version Disc ID. When creating a child profile, do not remove the "Bonus Feature Film" Disc ID from the main profile. When profiling the "Bonus Feature Film", only profile the data associated with that film. Any features associated with the Main Feature belong to the Main Feature profile. Add the additional profile to the Main Profile as a child profile via the Box Set button. Cover Images: Use the cover image from the Main Feature profile's packaging. Exception: If the "Bonus Feature Film" is individually packaged, use the cover images from that packaging.

Thus, I would say it's both.

Good point, thanks!

So it doesn't get a mention in the title, but it does get mentioned in Other Features? I can live with that.

The strange thing is that on the disc itself, all 4 titles are equally mentioned, and nothing says that WotW 2 is a bonus film, and the same thing goes for the main menu. So why Echo Bridge decided to relegate WotW 2 to bonus film stature on the packaging remains a mystery.

I would say so.

Are the film elements for WotW 2 of lower quality than the other three films?  I'd have to guess that EB didn't put any effort into that film where as they may have with the other three.  Otherwise, it may just be a marketing gimmick.

It's not inferior picture quality, so I guess it's marketing. Perhaps they didn't think WotW 2 fitted into the category Disaster Movies.

This leaves another question:
Total runtime for the parent, 3 films or all 4? Strictly by the rules I would assume just the 3 "non-bonus" movies?

For some reason this profile haunts me. So I have a new question:

Is it really a bonus feature (in DVD Profiler terms)?

For the most part, the rules are quite clear on where to take the data from.
Title, edition, overview and UPC comes from the cover.
Studios and Media Companies can come from both.
Genres are, for the most part, entirely objective.
Most everything else comes from the disc itself, including Features.

So, if the cover treats it as a bonus feature, but the disc clearly does not - is it in fact a bonus feature?
I'm inclined to say no.

Any thoughts on this?

I hate this kind of confusing crap. I wish I could say one way or the other but looking at it... like you... I would be questioning it.  Either way it is a child profile. Not sure I would mention it in other features... though I would say I haven't seen "Bonus Feature Films" in other features in the other profiles I have so I personally would just do the child profile.

Because EB considers it a bonus movie and clearly states that on the packaging.

I have, I can't speak to DVDs lately, but I've seen them included in the other features section with Blu-rays.

Per box set rules:
Quote:
The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film. The main examples are:

Sets where each film is packaged individually, and held together in a package of some kind.
Sets where each film is on a separate disc, but not individually packaged. This includes gatefold Digipaks and 2-Disc sets in normal DVD cases.
Sets containing 2 films, one on each side of Dual-Sided DVD.
Create individual profiles for each movie in these Box Sets.

The term bonus feature film is defined as follows:
Quote:
The term "Bonus Feature Film" is used to define any feature film that is included as part of the bonus material for a single release.

A "single release" would mean a single film vs. a box set, IMO.  So, this is not a bonus feature film per definition and it should have its own profile in the box set.

I don't think that disqualifies it as a bonus feature since the contribution guidelines tell us to create a separate child profile anyway for a "bonus feature film".

Quote:
Create a child profile for the "Bonus Feature Film" using its individual UPC if available or use Disc ID (read on a DVD-ROM) if not available. If the Disc ID is already in use, create an alternate version Disc ID. When creating a child profile, do not remove the "Bonus Feature Film" Disc ID from the main profile. When profiling the "Bonus Feature Film", only profile the data associated with that film.
