DVD Profiler's Movie Pick feature lets you browse your collection interactively and pick movies to watch. It's the feature to use when you're in the mood to watch something but aren't sure just what to watch.

Movie Pick uses everything it knows about your collection to decide what to display. It considers things like the selected audience, when or whether you've watched each DVD, what review you've given them, how long they are, etc.

As you rate each shown DVD, using the Rate Selection section, Movie Pick gets closer and closer to the kind of DVD you're interested in. It compares genres, overviews, actors, directors, production years, ratings, and tags to find matches.

Movie Pick is a premium-only feature. Click here for details on premium registration.

To use Movie Pick:

Select Collection->Movie Pick, or click Movie Pick () on the toolbar.

Movie Pick will scan your collection and make a suggestion of something to watch. See Movie Pick Advanced Features for details on how it decides what to display.

Help Movie Pick decide what DVDs are relevant by using the Constraints section:

  • If you're short on time, pick a maximum length.
  • By default, Movie Pick will try to pick things you haven't seen recently. To completely hide titles you've seen or seen recently, set the Last Watched constraint.
  • Select members of your Users database who will be watching the DVD. Movie Pick will only show DVDs that match the users' appropriate ratings.

If the shown DVD is one you want to watch, click the Select button. If not, tell Movie Pick how close the shown DVD is to what you want to watch by clicking on the Rate Selection control. Movie Pick will use this to figure out what you're in the mood for and display DVDs that fit. Click to the left for a negative rating, and to the right for a positive rating:

When you've selected all the movies you want to watch, select the actions you'd like Movie Pick to take, then click OK.

  • Flag Selected will flag all the movies you've selected in the main collection listing. This is useful for (among other things) printing reports which show the selected DVDs.
  • Set Selected as Watched will create a new Watched By event for each selected DVD. You can use the Set Watched By section to pick who is watching each DVD.
