I have received about 20 Pending Updates to vote on.  Is there a standard in terms of the way the description is formatted?  For instance, from the backs of the DVDs :

Phantom Menace : PG
Attack of the Clones : Rated PG for sustained sequences of sci-fi action/violence.
Revenge of the Sith : PG
Violence
Not Recommended for Young Children
Disturbing Content

Star Wars : PG For Sci-Fi Violence and Brief Mild Language.
Empire : PG For Sci-Fi Violence
Return : PG For Sci-Fi Violence

A few things to note;
1). Only 2 of the 6 end the description with a period.
2). Some are all small letters, most capitalize all words except conjunctions
3). Only Revenge has the rating on 3 lines with no joiners.
4). The latter 3 all have the word "For" in the ratings, Attack has "for".
5). Phantom is not on the case (hence would need to come from one of the sites listed in the contribution notes).

Just thought I might point out some of the differences.  Is there a standard?  Should we put in exactly what is on the DVD, but then what about if we take it from a site?  Capitalize it the same way or all small letters?  Add a period?

I realize I am being super-anal, but would like a standard established at the outset if possible.

Thanks,
DD.

You are seeing different ways because the outcome keeps changing at the Rules Committee Forum and the filter Invelos uses has been changed.

At the current time it looks like we want to go with Title Formatting so "Sci-Fi Violence and Brief Mild Language" would be the correct format. That is if it stays the way it is turning.

I decided to hold off on updating it until it is nailed down so that we won't have to work on the same thing over again later if we did it wrong the first time.

What is entered in the Ratings Description field would be:

Sci-Fi Violence and Brief Mild Language

Ken'sfilter strips out the word "For" and the period at the end, so there's no point in entering them.

I see you worrying about the cover, stop right there. Use the actual rating data from the disc itself, put it in your player and....

Skip

Except that the Rules say:

Quoting Rules:
Quote:

Enter rating details as shown, excluding the rating itself and trailing period. e.g. "Rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language." is entered as "Sci-fi violence and brief language". Obtain the rating details in order of preference from:

    * DVD case, usually on the bottom rear
    * Rating page displayed on-screen
    * Filmratings.com, or the equivalent region-specific ratings information website

Please note the first place we are to take the rating description from.

I think I would like to see the rule follow the one for the overview, ie. if it's all capitals make it 'normal' case, otherwise, as written.

Of course I'll follow the Rule when it's decided whatever the outcome!
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

Current Rule:
Quote:
Rating
Use the Rating shown on the DVD cover. When there is no rating, or an unrated version of the film on the disc, use the NR rating. Use the “Adult” rating for all Adult films.

Enter rating details as shown, excluding the rating itself and trailing period. e.g. "Rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language." is entered as "Sci-fi violence and brief language". Obtain the rating details in order of preference from:
  • DVD case, usually on the bottom rear
  • Rating page displayed on-screen
  • Filmratings.com, or the equivalent region-specific ratings information website
  • Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

I've added a capitalization section to the ratings description rules.  Additionally, I've added a filter to the rating description field to strip trailing periods.

I'm sorry, but there's a contradiction in the current rule:
    Quote:
Enter rating details as shown, excluding the rating itself and trailing period. e.g. "Rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language." is entered as "Sci-fi violence and brief language".

For English profiles, capitalize all words except joining words such as "of", "the", "a", "in", etc. For non-English profiles, use capitalization rules common to the language of the profile, as commonly used for titles. In all cases, the first word will be automatically capitalized in your submission.

According to the last line the first line should read: Enter rating details as shown, excluding the rating itself and trailing period. e.g. "Rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language." is entered as "Sci-fi Violence and Brief Language".
