| Posted: | | | | I usually wouldn't do this, but I had to let you guys know. Saturday, May 7, 2011 an elf brought an LG 55" 55LW5600 3DTV into my house and set it up. Absolutely incredible. If you go to Best Buy and check it out, you will be impressed, but if you take it home and set it up...it's about 2 or 3 times better in-home. The shutter glasses fit right over my prescription glasses and it doesn't bother me at all. I love my 42" Panasonic 3D Plasma. The 3D effects are amazing. Avatar looks incredible. | Posted: | | | | For those who have tried this, I'm curious about the picture quality. One of the things that drives me crazy about 3-D is the way the image tends to go out of register on the edges. I constantly feel like I'm watching a blurry image. Is this any better in the home environment? It's gotten to the point where I won't even bother paying the 3-D tax in theaters. | Posted: | | | | I had that while watching the Guardians of Gaoud or somesuch, the owl movie. Seemed like my glasses were out of sync the entire movie.
Overall, I haven't been too impressed with standard 3D on the big screen. Now IMAX 3D, that impressed the hell out of me - though if you tilt your head, it breaks the 3D effect |

| Posted: | | | | The one I got is an LED/LCD 120MHz. The technology is very new and most people think that the 1080p is cut in half 540p for each eye, not so anymore. The glasses are not the shuttered variety, but are the exact same ones you get at the movie theatre, Cinema 3D and are very light weight and fit over your prescription lenses. They only cost $25 USD for 2 pair. I kept the ones I got when I saw Avatar and they are the exact same. 4 pair of glasses came with the TV and as part of my deal I got 4 more, that makes 8 plus the 2 from Avatar.
The picture is incredible and there are no double images anywhere. This particular set will even turn 2D into 3D. Before you laugh, it's true. It will create an image in realtime that uses up to 20 levels of depth. On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being actual 3D discs, it's about a 4 and more than worth it to watch. Sporting events are very nice. To make sure you get the very best, you need to buy the best HDMI cables on the market, the HDMI 1.4 variety and a very good power strip. If you're interested, I bought the 8' $100 Monster cables. I already had the $130 Monster power strip.
Also, I purchased the 4 year extended warranty which can be extended up to 9 years and the calibration package. On July 1, a technician is going to come to the house and calibrate the TV with and I quote: "$16,000 worth of equipment and calibrate everything". You need at least 100 hours of use before this is done.
I'm also tired of having 4 or 5 remotes, so I got a Harmony 700 which is supposed to allow me to control all except the PS3. They do have a $60 option you can purchase on top of the $150 cost of the remote to control the PS3. I couldn't convince myself that was worth it, so I'll have to use 2 remotes.

| Posted: | | | | I dunno, I just have no interest in this tech. I have a Mits 73838 and a Panny BDT-300 and I even have two 3D movies (Avatar & Tron) that I got as gifts. I have no desire to get glasses and watch these things. I bought my gear because of the price/perfomance factor and not because it does 3D. It just seems like a silly gimmick rather than a true improvement. Guess I am just getting old. | | | Tom

I've experienced cross-talk, or ghosting, in iMax theaters but to tell you the truth, I've rarely experienced it with my Panny. | Posted: | | | | I keep reminding myself that I never really got much out of the standard 3D fare at the theaters and I try to avoid them. Not so for IMAX 3D, that really blew my socks off - very little effort to see the effect and almost no eye strain.
Now when they come out with IMAX TV's, I'll probably jump on that bandwagon! |

| Posted: | | | | I made a few adjustments with the onboard controls and I'm happy with the whites and blacks. A service tech is coming to the house on July 1 to calibrate everything. There needs to be at least 100 hours of use on the TV before they do this. In the week and a half we've had it, we're probably already close to that. Doing some remodeling and decided to spring for the 42 inch version of the LG for upstairs. I have to say it is a whole bunch of fun. Only 3D I have so far is TRON. I have Captain America and Carmen (Opera) on order. I saved a bunch of the Real3D glasses from Avatar and Captain America, and I have found them much higher quality and more comfortable than the included ones I got with the LG package, which also included a low-end 3D/BD player. I haven't done much viewing or setup yet, so I was wondering about your experiences with the 2D to 3D simulation? How about viewing Cable TV (e.g. football??) | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | I bought a Samsung UE55D7000 last week. The set does have a bit of clouding issues, but none in daylight, and as soon as I light a small lamp sitting behind the TV, I can't say it's noticeable.
I had 2 pair of 3D glasses included. So far I only watched Piranha in 3D, but it looked great. I still have Drive Angry, Saw 3D and Thor to test.
I don't plan on watching 2D content in 3D, but I did a few tests, and I tought the result was much better than I expected. You really get a sense of depth, and still enough detail is retained. I actually found it much better as watching the converted Alice in Wonderland in theaters.
I performed a first calibration, starting with a mix of a few settings I found on AVSForum, and then used the patterns on the Ratatouille BD to tweak them.
