The Smilebox version may be enough to convince me it's time to buy that Blu-ray player.

This is all pretty interesting to me - I never even knew that a technique such as Cinerama existed before this thread.

Likewise, I'm planning on picking up the smilebox version.

You're gonna need a bigger  TV .. .

I'm wondering if this so called 'smile box'  version will be this 'undefined/undetermined/ unheard of -aspect ratio of 2.89:1  !

Keeping in mind that the '59 version of Ben Hur  was,  and is  2.76:1  and that was pretty close
to 3 to 1  which means (on a 4:3 TV set)  one third Black / One third Movie image / One third Black ..

An anamorphic 16 x 9 TV screen wouldn't be quite as drastic looking , as a regular rectangular screen .
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

A 20 footer might be big enough.

I am certainly glad there is not big catalog of Cinerama films, I can just see the jockeying designed to get us to buy setups designed specifically for Cinerama. Maybe three screens appropriately curve, of course and 3 projectors.

No that would be the Ultimate Edition, Terry. Which appears to include a booklet similar to B & C. The BD is the Digi-Book.

What I am trying to find out within the next week is exactly how the UltimateEd is going to be spread over the three or is it two discs??
and no smilebox for SD  only Bluray??  Is it only the smilebox that will have aspect ratio of 2:89 ??

Smilebox?

How the West Was Won was filmed using Cinerama, which required a curved screen to display it.  To replicate this on home video, they need to use a curved image on the display, resembling a smile.  So instead of letterbox, it is smileboxed.  Only the Blu-ray will be including this version, not the DVD.
