I frankly don't see any real difference between this and the book-like digipaks used for the Babylon 5 series (at least in original release--I think it may have been re-released with thinpaks).

It looks like a digipack to me to. Gluing some pages in doesn't make it stop being a digipack.

Then you haven't actually seen one yet, Ace. They look like a book and nothing at all like a Digipake.

In that case, I would say 'Custom'.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I see a sheet of plastic with some hubs glued to cardboard. The plastic piece is identical to many digipacks I have. How does adding pages change things?

LOL, the plastic piece is not what defines a Digipak by itself. A digipak is a specific style, typically it is a gatefold in appearance, and looks nothing like a bound book, which is what a Digibook looks like. By your definition even clamshell could be a digipak, Ace, it uses a very similar piece of plastic.Have a look at Alien Quad, Ace, that is a classic Digipak, and it is a gatefold layout very typical of the format.

Incredulous with shock.

Not sure what a Digipak is supposed to look like then. Alien Quardrilogy is not far removed from this, just there it's several digipak trays to a long foldable sheet of cardboard and here it's glued on one with some book pages added

What is a digipak...? What beyond the tray must be present to make it a digipak?

Achim:

I can't even put my response into words, it is far too demeaning of you. I have described what Digipak is, and it does not resemble a bound book. Have you even seen a Digibook? I doubt it, had you there could be little doubt as to the difference between a Digipak and a Digibook. You appropriately described a Digipak, that is called a gatefold layout. Books are not a gatefold layout. According to your description a computer book that has a disc would be a Digipak, ROFLMAO, at the thought. This happens to use a tray that is very similar to the trays used in a Digipak, but it is glued into the back of a BOOK. You should probably go out and buy one .

I own one or two, maybe that's my problem.

So, a gatefold is a digipak but if in book shape it's a custom...? Sorry, not yet flying with me.

So, Achim you do not comprehend the differences between Alien Quad and North by Northwest. And you base that on a plastic tray. Bizarre in the extreme. For now it's a custom case, plain and simple, what is your problem, Remember when we through all this garbage before Ken added Steelbook or any other case, for some strange reason you would prefer to totally mis-identify a cover instead of calling it Custom (Other) and wait patiently for ken to ad Digibook to the list, which he will do, an dthe of course Hollywood will create another Case for you to misidentify.<shakes head>

I think it is all in how people look at it. It seems that some people are looking at the package as a whole... so that would be custom to them. While other people are only looking at it as how the actual disc is attached to the case... so all they see it as is a digipak. I personally always look at the entire case as a whole to determine the case type.

But then again I could be completely off here.

Well, Pete, maybe, but that seems weird to base it only on the tray. By that definitioon, that would eliminate Clamshells as well since the majority of them use a very similar tray, and is glued to the case as well. Just way too strange

The keep cases that two-disc DVDs and single-disc DVDs come in are quite different (in fact, there are several very different kids of two-disc cases), but we don't say it's a different type of case just because there's a middle section to put another disc on. If a case is made out of a soft plastic where the hinge works by bending the plastic itself and has a clear layer to insert cover art and has a latch mechanism of some sort, it's a keep case, whether it's a three-disc fatty (Back to the Future), two disc in a standard width (Monsters, Inc) or just the standard case (The Graduate). Similarly a foldy piece of cardboard with plastic trays glued to it is a digipack whether it's a standard version (Alien Quad), puts the trays on edge like a book (Babylon 5), has two discs per tray (later Xena seasons), some of the folds are vertical instead of horizontal (Tripping the Rift), there a puch for a booklet (early printing of Buffy) or some pages glued in the middle (North by Northwest). If this is different, please explain how.
