I have the Criterion Collection/Eclipse Series set Aki Kaurismäki 's Proletariat Trilogy (which contains Shadows in Paradise, Ariel, and The Match Factory Girl). I also want to pick up the Eclipse set of his Leningrad Cowboys films, and then on another wish list is Mother of Mine. Watched the trailer and they all spoke english. Is it a movie where people speak the language their supposed to, or everyone speaks one language? Dislike movies like e.g. Memoirs of a Geisha where the central language is changed. |

Try Kenji Mizoguchi's 1936 film "Sisters of the Gion" for a more authentic look a geisha life made around the time the Hollywood version of "Memoirs of a Geisha" is set. Don't know the availability in Finland, but the U.S. version is available in Criterion's Eclipse Series #13: Kenji Mizoguchi's Fallen Women. |
