I guess from now on I'll just have to remember that what you say isn't really what you mean, but that you implied something else. Thanks for the tip .

As far as strong next-gen games, you hear different people say different things.  If you ask a X360 owner about the best games, you'll usually hear Halo3, GeoW, Forza 2, and maybe Bioshock.  If you ask a PS3 owner the same question, you'll usually hear Resistance:FoM, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future, Uncharted, GT5P, MGS4, etc.

Metacritic scores:
360
BioShock - 96
Gears of war - 94
Halo 3 - 94
Rock Band (currently 360 exclusive in the UK) - 92
Mass Effect - 91
Forza 2 - 90
PGR3 - 88
PGR4 - 85

PS3
MGS4 - 94
Ratchet - 89
Uncharted - 88
RFOM - 86
Warhawk - 84
GT5P - 80
Heavenly Sword - 79
Lair - 53 (thought i'd throw that one in after the amount of bs you spewed about how brilliant that game was )

Like I said, much better exclusives.

You want to play that game using subjective ratings?  'Cause we all know Halo3 deserved it's score, right?

PS3 has the best rated game library this gen.

The argument about PS3 not having games or good games is no longer an intelligent one.

Stef, one more question.... What were your thoughts on Ico? I wish I still had my review of the game, but it's long since gone.

Absolutely loved it. One of the most unique and memorable adventure games i will ever play. I havent finished Shadow of the Colossus yet (the next game by the same studio) but am also loving that.

17) You still have access to thousands of games.  My point still stands.

Yes we all buy next gen consoles to play PS1 games? I really don't think so.

Remember I own both and have played titles across both. I can form a very good opinion of what is actually good and what people thought was good due to lack of choice.

The truth of the matter is that you have more selection on the PS3 in the first 1.5 years or so than X360 did.  I don't remember X360 owners talking about the lack of titles a year ago, do you?  BTW, there are over 380 titles available for the PS3.

Why buy a console at a premium for what is still a limited games catalogue and is even more limited in terms of what is exclusive/good now? It makes sense to wait for it to come down in price when the catalogue has extended. (PS TBA does not count as an available game).

Quote:

If you don't want to find titles you like, you won't find them.

Please this is a nonsense statement, I still buy and play new adventure games on the PC, I'm not one who has to has the latest omg wow fps/rpg/puzzle destroy all other games type of game

21) I thought we were talking about reasons to buy a PS3 or X360...not standalone DVD players.

If you own a standalone player that has better upscaling this is not a reason to choose a PS3.

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.  Look what it's done for the Wii (Mario this, Metroid that).

So, you think that keeps you from having a favorite already pick out in your mind before you play?  That's as bad as people claiming they're have neutral opinions just because they own both consoles.

The $50 premium over a Premium X360 is for MORE OPTIONS (i.e. 20GB more space, a Blu-ray player, Wi-Fi, lossless audio, etc.).  All that for $50 more and no addition $50 to play online.  How do you think it makes sense to try to argue that point?

The link I provided (for those that like subjective reviews) shows that X360 has more shovelware than PS3.  The other link I provided shows that there is a nice catalog of titles to play as well.  What do you have to back up your points (non-points)?  Words?

If you don't want to enjoy an experience, you won't.  It seems you have decided not to enjoy some features/functions of the PS3, so you won't.  It appears you are sabotaging your own happiness.  Interesting.

My statement makes all the sense in the world.  It happens all the time.  Plus, I'm nowhere near being the first person to say such.  Therefore, it proves my statement makes sense.

You obviously didn't get the message correctly.  In this case, it means people make themselves not like titles on certain consoles.  Some people, also, claim there is nothing like a particular game available for a certain console (especially, when the titles are usually no story having FPSs).

Buying a game doesn't mean you're giving it a fair shake.

Again, this is about reasons to choose a PS3 over a X360 and vice versa.  A standalone DVD player is not a part of the equation...period.  You are just attempting to muddy the water (on purpose or not) by throwing as much random outside perimeters in as you can.

In which case buy a still available PS2, they're dirt cheap.

This bears no relation to what I said. I said I can tell whats getting good reviews just because there's a lack of titles. I apply that equally to the Xbox 360 in it's day and PS3 and I apply it after playing the game for a decent time.

And owning both consoles allows you to talk from experience not hearsay.

You ignore the fact he already owns an Xbox so is good chance (although I have made an assumption) he is likely to already owns titles/hardware etc... for it. Buying a bog standard XBOX (even with HDMI output) is nowhere near the cost of a PS3. Online play is not the be all and end all for a lot of people.

Wow what irrefutable logic, a platform that's been around longer has more shovelware? PS3 has it's share of shovelware and it will grow. Are you claiming the thousands of PS1 titles we can all play are all triple a? A link to a list of titles proves nothing.

If it makes you feel better Games

By the way your 'PS3 has best games' link goes through to a Wii article, but simple maths again comes into play here. A smaller number sample size means your results will come out differently. Wait for the catalogue to grow and watch the average score come down.

You can assume my motivations all that you want. I'll refer you to my definition of fanboy in the other thread. As far as I'm concerned all the consoles and PC I own have strenghts and weaknesses. I won't try and present only strengths on any one system when somebody asks for opinions. If I was really pushing the Xbox I would have attempted to negate all the points made in favour of the PS3, but as I'm not a fanboy I haven't.

Sorry but it is valid. If it came down to making a decision and this was a deciding factor, somebody should be aware that they may have another option, especially if they already own a standalone player. You can't take the PS3 back saying I don't want it because my DVD player does a better job of upconverting.

What do you call a lack of titles, specificly?  Is it any number that's less than the X360's current number?

Why are you ASSuming the OP is dumb?  Obviously, he has considered the titles he already has and has STILL asked about the PS3.  Online play seems to be the "be all and end all" for over 10 million people (XBL Gold subscribers). Two years of XBL online play equals $100, IF paid in advance.

Yes, a platform that's been around longer CAN have more shovelware than one that hasn't.  Clearly, that's not the case for the Wii.  That's why I said, "CAN have more shovelware".

What you are NOT seeing is that Sony published games have the highest overall game ratings. This goes all the way back to the beginning of the PS2.  That means a better shovelware to good games ratio for the PS3, since a good number of shovelware comes from multiplatform titles.  Do you think that will change THIS year (looking at the gaming line up)?

BTW, I'm glad you can read that the Wii was the focus of the article I linked to.  Did that prevent you from looking at the graph with the X360, PS3 and Wii on it?

Your motivations speak for themselves through you.  In the face of daming EVIDENCE, you continue to push forward by ignoring it.  I'll refer you back to my definitions of fanboy in the other thread.

You attempt to push the Xbox by TRYING to come up with negative points for the PS3 that are really positives (like the PS3 being $50 more even though it has hundreds of dollars in extras over the X360).

To play 30% of a game is to TRY to give it a fair shake.  That doesn't mean you will be successful at giving it a fair shake, though (it could be due to another game that in fixed in your mind as un-topable, etc).

Since you're now married, might I suggest you check out the demo for Pixel Junk Monsters at the Playstation Store?  Since buying that ($10 for the full game), I'm convinced that my wife has logged more hours in on the PS3 that me and my kids combined (games and movies).  It's also an awesome co-op game if you have two remotes. I'd guess there's not been 5 days in the past few months when someone didn't have that game going at least once in the day.

Does anyone know where I can find the Playstation Network Pre-Paid cards at? I already tried Wal-Mart and my local grocery store that sells "over a 100 gift cards for various retailers," but no luck. Anyone have any idea where I can look?

Look at ebgames.com, gamestop.com, bestbuy.com etc.

If you can't find them online, it's not worth wasting a trip to a B&M.

They may not be out yet.

Thanks. I had already tried my CC#, but according to the PSN my info was incorrect, which is wasn't, but from searching around it seems to be a common issue. Also it sounds like the PSN cards are available at U.S. military bases and some Meijer stores right now. Maybe they are doing a soft launch??

The PS3 is not a cheap Blu-ray player, it's about $100 more than dedicated blu-ray players the last time I did a price check a few weeks ago for my dad.  BUT - if you factor in the ease of updating the firmware to support new blu-ray features and to fix bugs, it'll probably evaluate out as cheaper.
