This is what happens when you delete topics, nothing more then more arguing. If the moderators are late to the party (way past the first few posts), then they should not delete topics ...actually, they never should delete topics

With the exception of spam threads, I agree.

I am new to this and have been surfing the forums and have noticed that there are a few people on this site that seem to be able to say anything they want with no repercussions.
I did see the image of the cover in question and in my opinion there was nothing wrong with it.

Actually I'm not surprised at all. I know that you take your data very seriously and I also know that you you have an awful lot of contributions to consider given the size of your collection.

In the past you've occasionly PM'd me, explained your view on different matters, and generally enlightened me as to several aspects of the programs evolution. Also you've (more than once) offered to assist me if I needed it. I expressed my gratitude for your taking the time to communicate with me in that manner and have absolutely no problem in doing so again publicly: Thanks again. (This is genuine, so please don't read sarcasm or whatever into it)

If you will reread your own post (the one I am responding to now I mean) you will see that you just explained something in a solid, clear, civil and in no way offensive manner. And THAT is precisely my point. You have a right to vote NO if you don't like a scan, just as others have a right to vote YES if they dó like it. But your NO doesn't have to be offensively phrased.

Maybe it's just me but I've read an awful lot of posts in the 5 monthes I've been a part of this community, and my impression is that on quite a few matters you and unicus seem to have very similar views. It's an awful shame that, while basically making the same point, your post can often easily be read as arrogant, while unicus' post reads completely differently because of the way it is phrased.

Don't make the mistake of thinking I don't respect you. I do. I'd just respect you more if you showed more respect to others.

And this (and my previous post) is not a personal attack on you. It's a call for more civil behaviour from all of us, including you ánd me. I think it's incredibly sad, and we should all be ashamed, if good people feel the need to leave because they're tired of being insulted.

However there are a few users who seem to think it's ok to stomp all over someone else's work or opinion. They feel we should have thick skins and whatnot. That it's freedom of speech and so on.
That's an attitude I will never conform to. Civility should be the norm, and a thick skin shouldn't be a requirement.

And every so often, when I've seen one rude remark too many, I'll react. (And for me also : who the user is, is at that point completely and totally irrevelant.) Sure, it'll probably be ignored, but if that's the deciding factor, we could all stop posting.

In the past few weeks I've seen a few people refer to other's efforts as "crap". Not saying that was you, not saying it wasn't (I can remember one name, but not all of them), so I'm saying this in general. To me there is NEVER any excuse to talk that way to another user and anyone doing so should be temporarily banned.

Cheers,
Steve

I just wanted to quote Mallrat's post from the previous page since no one commented on it (much to my surprise) and I think its message is too spot on to get lost in the shuffle. To me his post describes the situation to a T, and is something that should be pondered by all.

- I never saw the thread so I have no idea what is said exactly.

-Skip complaned about few recent image contributions, and stated the reason why they are wrong.
-People said that a No vote should do the trick, and theres no reason to bring it to the forums.
-Richie posted the contributed and database images of one of hes contributions.
-Many agreed that they were an improvement.
-Skip said again that they didnt match the actual covers.
-Richie made this topic.
-The original topic was deleted.

Now imagine that with the regular balance between insults, arguing and a few friendly posts in the middle and you get the hang of it

The original topic didnt really contain anything that you wouldnt see in pretty much every topic in this forum area. It didnt get overly nasty, and you could see that there had happened a lot between Richie and Skip that wasnt covered in that topic. So even if we did see it, it would only be one case of many, and wouldnt really shed much light into whos right and whos wrong. One of the reasons for thinking that is because many stated that Skip only votes No on Richies contribution. Never Yes, even if he had he DVD. Which was pretty much throwing some gazoline to the already flammable relationship between these two users.

All in all, we really should learn that a good compromise is often the best solution. Even if you have pulled most of the rope to your side in a tug of war, you're still using energy pulling it.

The way moderators cut in this thread, deleting some posts and not the answers, distorts totally the discussion. It is no more censorship, it becomes manipulation.

If you want things improve, stop protecting bullies. By hiding what they write, you allow them to go on as much as they wish...

You along with some others cried and cried for moderation. Now you have it, censorship and all and now you cry because they aren't doing it the way you believe it should be done. Wait a minute...do I see a parallel here.

My position remains the same as it has always been, Haven't moved an inch and won't.

Wrong. Please read what was written about moderation. I never asked for moderation. I am in favour of a ban following blatantly violation of forum rules. This could be done by Ken, quoting the concerned text and deciding publicly a ban, so that everybody could see why, and whether it is fair.

What's going on with this thread. Yesterday it was 4 pages now it's 3 but there are no posts that state that they were deleted by moderators. Do deleted posts completely disappear now?

Keep it civil and to the point. The personal attacks that ping pong between people are pointless and detract from the thread. They will continue to be deleted.

Glad to see the moderators jumping in here.

Call it censorship, call it manipulation, call it whatever you want, but this place needs moderation.  The nastiness went away for a short while, but it's been coming back, and without intervention, this forum will be going down the tubes.  Many of our long time valuable users are going away, and it's all due to the combative nature of this place.

For everybody that is calling for freedom of speech, well, this is the cost of that freedom.  You'll end up with an empty room where you can say whatever you want.  If you want people to listen to what you have to say, you need to find a civil way to say it.
