| Posted: | | | | *tries again* - - - 'Face/Off,' 'Top Gun,' 'Jack Ryan Collection,' 'Disburbia' Coming to HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc: "Paramount Home Entertainment has announced 'The Jack Ryan Collection,' 'Face/Off (Special Collector's Edition),' 'Disturbia' starring Shia LaBeouf, and 'Top Gun' are all coming to HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc in the coming months. Paramount has not [yet] released any disc information for these titles [...] 'The Jack Ryan Collection' will include 'The Sum of All Fears,' 'Clear and Present Danger,' 'The Hunt For Red October,' and 'Patriot Games.' On the speculation front, Paramount has announced 'Saturday Night Fever' on DVD will be available September 18. Since the studio has already confirmed a high definition release, don't be surprised if it doesn't hit stores the same date." | | | Erik

And before Ascended_Saiyan makes his comeback screaming, I did post a few reports mentioning Blu-ray before this. And yes, BD probably has some "HD DVD" exclusives too. HD DVD players outselling Blu-ray alternatives... at the moment

You should know by now that these brief claims of superiority won't mean much when the other camp flips the numbers around and cranks out a jaw dropping figure of its own, but the North American HD DVD Promotional Group has recently announced that it's currently livin' the high life. Supposedly, standalone HD DVD players now hold 60-percent of the market share amongst standalone high-definition disc players, and the recent "aggressive spring retail and marketing campaigns" are to thank. Unsurprisingly, Toshiba's heavily (albeit momentarily) discounted HD-A2 was dubbed the "best-selling next-gen DVD player model to date," and we were even told that over 75,000 HD DVD titles were sold in the final week of May alone. The countdown for the Blu-ray rebuttal starts... now. |

| Posted: | | | | Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair: "OK, it's coming. 4 disc [DVD] set. NC-17. 18th August 2007." http://turnerclassic.moviesunlimited.com/product.asp?sku=D55293++ "Edited into the single epic martial arts saga it was originally conceived as." A rumor for now, but it was bound to show up one of these... years. And since we're on a roll, it's a Weinstein Company/Genius Products release, who of course are HD DVD exclusive. A big title for the format which I suspect they'll 'trim' down to 2 discs for HD, one with the mammoth cut (possibly containing new scenes, definitely the uncut Japanese ones), one with the special features. QT: I want to cut the whole movie together like one big epic with an intermission in the middle like a 60s film. I've been holding off because I've been working on it for so long that I just wanted a year off from Kill Bill and then I'll do the big supplementary DVD package. In all fairness, Buena Vista can and seem to plan on releasing the US theatrical "Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2" releases on Blu-ray. | | | Erik

| Posted: | | | | Well, every time someone joins either field there'll appear a "is the war over" article somewhere.
It's very good news for the Blu-Ray Association of course, as blockbuster is quite influential. But, if costumers start going majorly for the other format in the future, they'll change their support of course, as they have a business that has to give the costumers what they want and nothing else.
I do hope that only one format stays as I'd like to have access to all contents without having to worry if it's coming out in "my" format or not. Being a Blu-Ray adept myself, I welcome news like this, of course, because it might speed up the process. But I'm not as naïf as to think this'll be over for quite some time. | | | With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress. |
