Not true, Ross, there is a reason, the Rules were chnaged.

@Chris

Did you not read what I said. ALL titles will be updated. I happen to be working on the them now, its their turn in the rotation. It takes time because for some reason my original scans were lost in the move to #.x and I have to re-do each one of them, in addition to the audit. I have 6 down and three yet to do.

Yes, it is true. Every single bit of what I said was true. I don't give a flying f&*k what the rules say, everyone knows the title of the movie is Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones.

Situations like these are why I stopped contributing. It's a waste of time due to too many anal-retentive people who treat this as though it's the most important thing in their lives.

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…

Everyone,

This is just the latest example of craziness on these forums and in these databases. I am so disappointed in the behavior of people on these types of issues.

The notion of using the rules as a waepon for rubbing people's faces in things etc. is so juvenile and pathetic. The purpose of the rules is to create guidelines for contributions and to create consistency in the database. For the most part they seem to work quite well.

To me the purpose of voting is to give Ken guidance on what the users feel the rules are in a particular case AND/OR whether an exception to the rules should be made in a specific case. I agree that as written the rules seem to require the removal of "Episode" from the title of the Star Wars DVDs --- however I think that result is silly in this case as we also all know that the movies (at least I-III) do include "Episode" in their titles.

Please let us agree to stop this silly back and forth on both sides and stop making contributions for silly reasons. and then let things go if your honest contributions are declined. I also think that threatening people for not voting according to your wishes is wrong. The person voting should vote what they want the result to be (otherwise why vote? - Ken decides the rules not us) -- whether they want that result because they feel the rules require it or because they feel an exception is warranted.

If Ken decides the Star Wars titles should be changed b/c the rules as written require it I will accept it. However I hope that he decides that the rules are resulting in a silly title in these cases and makes an exception in the case of the Star Wars movies.

Brian

Many of you need to read this post, as it's 100% correct.

And if these stupid changes go through, you'd better believe I'll recontribute them correctly - as many times as it takes.

Flame away, Skip. You're the cancer in this community.

I will tell you that I will absolutely vote NO, Ross, as long as the Rules are what they are. Do I like it, No I donn't and I have said that, but the Rules are what they are and you would be absolutely VIOLATING the Rules to re-contribute such data. Don't blame me, I tried to explain all of this at the time, but you see Ross, users like you make the kind of insulting comments that you make and people are unwilling to anything rational. They don't respond to the poll based on rationality, they vote based on Skip, and this time, frankly they blew it. I am not surprised, but I am disappointed in everybody's attitude, mostr especially YOURS. But as long as they continue to not vote based on rational thought, we will continue to have these issues, I can only that people have learned something from this exercise.

If Ken chooses to go back to film credits, I will not be happy because of the Rule of the Week, in my opinion, and this has proven to be correct more than once, when you have the Rule set you don't go changing direction as it will only cause problems and you definitely do not look for ways to preclude data even if you don't like it. You figure out how to live with it. To do otherwise would result ultimately in a total wreck of a database.

My guess is Ken, in light of this 'threat', Ken will lock the titles.  He has done this before and I have no doubt he will do it again.

It wouldn't surprise me and assuming the Rule remains as it is that would be the best course of action.

BTW were I Ken I would not have made the change to the Rules that was made, but that's me.

The average user who is searching for a DVD or entering a DVD into the database will do so either using the title on the front of the DVD or the UPC. They won't be using the on-screen title, or the credit block or a copyrighted title in some Washington archive. From a userabliity standpoint this change makes perfect sense.

AS I said at the time and several times over the past few years. I understand that position completely and can even see it until something like this comes up, and if anyone SW is going to be the ONLY such example hasn't done enough of this yet. But even if it were, that is, in my book all the reason needed to use the ON Screen data and after all where does MOST of our data come from...the disc itself.

This was one of the other reasons people gave for wanting the change.  While some people in the forum might not like the change, Ken has indicated that he gains information from outside the forum.  I have to believe he made an informed decision here.

The program is called DVD Profiler, not Movie Profiler, and the title should reflect what's on the cover. Period. The rules were changed to reflect this.

The title change now matches the rules and the DVD cover. I agree with the change.

Why is the word "episode" so important to people? This is very simple, the change is simple, why does everyone have to be so angry about it?

Title = DVD Cover
Original Title = Title appearing on screen

Simple and works great. What's the problem exactly?

I doubt that any user, searching by title, will type more than "Star Wars" to find any of thes movies.

It doesn't matter whether or not "episode" is contained in the title.

Firstly because before that there is ": " or " - " or " ". He doesn't know which one to use since Average Joe has never even read the rules.

Secondly because whether or not "episode" is there it does not distingiush between the movies. The first difference would be I, II, III, IV, V or VI.

Thirdly because when he typed "Star Wars" with a good enough region/locality filter there won't be more than a dozen results through which you can easily scroll without anymore typing.

PS: I've formatted and locked all my titles locally.

Many of you need to read this post, as it's 100% correct.

I read a lot of crap in this topic, but with the one above I also fully agree.
