In many TV series (i.e. Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Roald Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected, Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Mystery & Imagination (1995)), there is a "host" which presents each episode (in the examples mentioned: Alfred Hitchcock, Roald Dahl and Christopher Lee, respectively). I haven't checked the credits for the Hitchcock series, but in the 2 other series Roald Dahl is credited as "Introduced by" in the opening credits, and Christopher Lee is credited as "Hosted by" in the opening credits. These presenters appear as themselves before the start of (and/or after the end of) the actual featured story, but they are not listed together with the cast in the end credits after the episodes.

I've felt strongly that for "normal" TV series, the whole cast should be listed within each episode divider, including the cast members who appear in every episode, and the forum members seem to have reached a consensus about this.

I was just wondering whether the type of TV series I mentioned above, though, could be one of the exceptions to the rule - that it would be better served with putting the Host/Presenter on his own at the top of the cast list, before the first episode divider? I think this would be the most correct (and "cleanest"), since he is not part of the cast of the actual filmed episodes (and thus not in the end credits cast list), but he still appears on screen in every episode bookend and is credited.

Any thought on this?

Hmmmm, interesting, of course you're right, just had forgotten it and had not had my memory refreshed in "The Twilight Zone" yet. Proposal seems reasonable, my curiosity is aroused now, so let's hear it.
Else you will all be sentenced to a night in Boris Karloff's Thriller

I don;t have any of such DVDs mentioned, but I would agree with such exception.

We'll have to make sure it doesn't open up room for other possibly unwanted exceptions...

This looks promising! BTW, I've tried both options in my local DB, and it certainly looks much, much better with the presenter listed before the first episode divider.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I don't know... I am kinda weary on this idea... maybe because of the problems I had when I tried this with "Main Cast" and saw how it just didn't work when putting it towards several series. So at this point I feel if they are credited with every episode they should be credited for every episode in profiler.

Would that not be more appropriately entered in the Crew section since the Host is not actually part of the cast?

I don't think so - the person appears on screen, introducing the episode - more cast than crew, surely?

A host is just as much part of the cast as a narrator would be, and they frequently get listed as cast.

I'm curious to know where you would intend listing a host as part of the crew... Executive Producer maybe?

I agree... the host is definitely part of the cast. But I also feel he should be treated just like the rest of the cast... and be credited for each episode... just like any other star of any other series should be.

Add Host to the Crew job list. Not hard to do.

Add Host to the Crew job list. Not hard to do. Btw, what makes you think a host is part of the cast?  If he/she appears in the movie/episode then give them a credit for cast, in addition to.  Hitchcock was a director, but usually did a cameo in his movies.  Does that make the director part of the cast, warranting a credit in the cast list as director?

Absolutely... I truly feel if they are credited for each episode... then definitely deserve to have the credit for each episode in profiler. Don't matter if it is cast, crew or what... if they receive the credit for each episode then that needs to be depicted in profiler.

I get the feeling that you are now just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Yes, Hitchcock was a director so he would get a credit in the crew list for director:  If he has a cameo appearance then yes, he would be credited for that in the cast list for whatever role it was he played, be it acknowledged in the credits or listed as 'uncredited' (with proof of course), as well as being credited as the director of the movie.

Steven Speilberg has done the same several times and he has been credited in every profile I've seen where this occurs, in exactly the same way as mentioned above.  Where's the issue?

The problem here is that you are saying the host of a TV programme is not a member of the cast but a member of the crew.  I would ask you why you think an actor (or in some cases the director) appearing on screen either aurally or visually, during the main feature of a TV programme/movie should be listed as anything other than another cast member, playing a role of host?
