I guess I'll start by putting the HD formats numbers for the UK, so we can have something to compare to a month from now.

Feb is still TBC

Previous sales were:

Blu Ray:
October 148 discs sold
November 492 discs sold
December 1194 discs sold
January 1,174 discs sold

HD DVD:
November 673 discs sold
December 7527 discs sold
January 5525 Discs sold

Totals: Blu Ray 3008 discs
          HD DVD 13725 discs

Remember, the HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 was launched there last year.  This will be a golden opportunity to measure the PS3 effect in the UK.  There are about 220,000 pre-orders in the UK (breaking all previous console pre-orders).  If only 6% of the pre-order PS3 owners buy 1 BD on launch day, that would instantly place Blu-ray in the lead of the "since inception" numbers.

Let's watch the European numbers after March 23.

Back when we were pushing for 100 pages, this thread still held my interest.  It's just sad seeing it on only 1 page now.  Whatever spark of life was left is now gone.

Well there is actual High Def support in DVD Profiler now.

And there are a few very extremely good titles coming to HD DVD!

Amazon UK DVD Sales Ranking...

Look at the 13th top selling DVD.  It's a BD.  Actually, that should be way more than enough to put Blu-ray above HD DVD's "since inception" sales numbers right there.  That number might go up next week when the PS3 is released.  They might break the top ten like the US Amazon sales.

BTW, there are no HD DVD titles ranked in the top 100 DVD sales on that site.

Are you watching?

I purpously named it HD DVD and Blu-ray

Both formats have great pro's and con's... lets not get completely back into the name calling and throwing mud towards HD DVD, or towards Blu-ray which is much smaller.

Toshiba Desperately Offers HD DVD Player w/ 5 Free Movies

Quote:
Washington, D.C.  (March 15, 2007) -- Toshiba's  new HD-A2 HD-DVD player is now available for $364.99 at Amazon.com.

The company's second-generation HD-DVD player, which was launched last October, has a suggested retail price of $499. Amazon.com last December was selling the set-top for $452, but has now lowered the price again.

Toshiba's HD-DVD format is battling with the Sony-supported Blu-ray format for the new high-def DVD audience.

Toshiba now is also offering five free HD-DVD movies for the purchase of any Toshiba HD-DVD player. The list of available titles includes: Apollo 13, Four Brothers, Casablanca, The Perfect Storm and We Were Soldiers.

Toshiba is now offering 5 free movies with your purchase into a quickly dying format.  What's the use?

Hey, but to each their own.
