I bought a brand new unopened copy of Eaten Alive Special Edition on Dark Sky's DVD label last year on it's release date. However, the week before it's release the company recalled the DVD & delayed it's release indefinately while it does a complete overhaul on the transfer. I still recieved my DVD as did several other people but, I don't want to open my copy because of the rarity factor just to get disc-ids. My contribution of the profile + covers was declined... why? & how can I get the DVD added to the database without getting the submission declined?

Lack of disc IDs shouldn't matter. Maybe there was some data within your contribution which was incorrect for the locality, such as the video format, SRP currency, etc. Double check everything and recontribute.

This is not entirely uncommon.  Fox Film Noir  movie "Boomerang!" was pulled as well, but not before quite a few copies got out there.

It is perfectly legitimate to add these to the main database, as they have "real" UPCs.

Just double-check everything and re-contribute.

So what happens in a few months when the DVD gets wide release?

given  the DVD gets a different cover same UPC,, does the 99.9% of the rest of us have to put up with the original release.?. ( kinda like the snapper case of BirdCage ?? )

Well the transfer is supposed to be completely new as well as there's supposed to be an additional commentary they didn't have time to do originally... so wouldn't that make it different enough to have 2 releases for the same upc in the database? Hopefully the UPC will be different, but just in case they aren't do us who own the original have to live with knowing there are such drastic differences?

You can't have more than one profile per UPC. The same as you can't have more than one profile per disc ID.

If the 'official' (re-)release uses the same UPC, then you could add it by disc ID.

Personally, I would argue that if a release has been pulled (in the sense that it was never meant to be released in the first place) and the UPC conflicts with the later 'official' release, then the database should record the official profile under that UPC because the first release was never meant to be sold in the first place and it is in fact the 'official' release that I would call the "Original Release".

WE can't, but Ken could... Not sure he has done that again for T2 in this database, but the InterVocative had 2 entries for the same UPC T2 release (1 was 2-Disc single-sided, one was 1-Disc double-sided). I believe that is what KFelon is referring to...
