Roolku-v233

I meant of course, which version of Mithirandir's Skin were you trying to run with Java Version 6 Update 1...

I am not using the Mithirandir's Skin. That's why I reported my problem in the Roolku thread.

O.k., I begin to understand. I thought you were talking about Mithirandir's Skin, as that is what you wanted to run...

Now I take it, you wanted to see if it's a general issue with java and if other could at least run Mithirandir's skin. (still think it would have been better in this thread)

Anyway, so you are trying to run roolku's skin with the new Java version and it shuts down DVD Profiler...?

I guess I'll have to try both layouts today, as you are having trouble with roolku's and bbmountain is having trouble with Mithirandir's skin...

BTW, bbmountain, the problem with the headshots in 3.0.3 has been reported before. I am not sure Mithirandir is working on a fix.

Anybody managed to get the Mithirandir's Java-Powered version to work with Java Version 6 Update 1 (JRE version 1.6.0_01) (the latest version on Java.com at this time)? Since installing this update, Profiler starts to load, but when it's time to load the skin, it quits without giving any error message or anything.

Martin,
I installed Java 6 version 1 yesterday and had the same results with the Mithirandir skin.  Ended up uninstalling Java & reinstalling my older version.

I have Sun's Java 1.6.0_01 installed. I have just tried and was successfully able to load Mithirandir's Skin 1.6beta as well as roolku's skin 2.33.

As previously reported, both skins currently don't display headshots.

Interesting...I just redownloaded & installed the Java that you mention and it definitely doesn't work for me.  DVDP just freezes up (and then indicates that the program is not responding.)  Maybe it's because I'm not using the DVDP 3.0.3 but am still with the 3.0.2?

Possible, but not very likely, IMHO.

I remember that 2.x was apparently doing things differently and it was actually impossible to use it with 1.6.0_01 (or 1.6.0 for that matter) at all.

Not likely to be the cause of a crash, but you did copy the class files to the new installation of Java...? Each release creates a new subfolder within the Java main directory...

No...I hadn't copied the classes to the new installation.  So I just did.  Really thought that would do it, but no different than before.  (I had to create a classes folder...didn't put it in the bin or lib folder, just as a sub-folder to Java.  Then I copied the classes to it.)

Well, you did it the right way (classes folder should be \Java\jre1.6.0_01\classes), but I had already suspected it won't change anything in your case. Normally the lack of classes would only result in a garbled output in the skin.

Well, since it's working here, I have no idea what to try next, really.

Are you on XP or Vista? (XP here for myself...)

Maybe it has something to do with "permission java.io.FilePermission" in the .java.policy file?

What lines are you using, ya_shin?

I don't really think missing or wrong permissions are the cause. When I had the trouble with 2.x I looked into that, thinking the file format may have changed, or something, but that wasn't the case. Also, again, wrong permission should only mess up the skin, but not crash the program.

Anyway, here's what I have (mainly set up for Mithirandir's Skin, roolku's skin only requires a subset of these):

Quote:
  permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "modifyThreadGroup";
  permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "modifyThread";
  permission java.net.SocketPermission "*", "connect, listen, resolve";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "C:\\Program Files\\InterVocative Software\\DVD Profiler\\*", "read, write";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "C:\\Program Files\\InterVocative Software\\DVD Profiler\\IMAGES\\-", "read, write";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "C:\\Program Files\\InterVocative Software\\DVD Profiler\\data\\infos\\-", "read, write";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "C:\\Program Files\\VideoLAN\\VLC\\*", "read, write, execute";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "C:\\Program Files\\CyberLink\\PowerDVD\\*", "read, write, execute";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "D:\\ya_shin\\DVD Profiler\\Databases\\ya_shin\\Images\\-", "read, write";
  permission java.io.FilePermission "D:\\ya_shin\\DVD Profiler Plus\\Tools\\-", "read, write, execute";

I'm continuing experiments with DVD Profiler under Linux and figured that if I can get this skin/layout to work, we can probably get any!

Anyhow, I just can't find the DVDP 3.x release (Mithirandir v1.54) on http://www.mithirandir.de/ (although I eventually found it by clicking on the CORRECT link in Mithirandir's sig ). 1.53 is easy as anything to find, but 1.54 seems to be an almost mystical beast.

Any particular reason it's not more accessible?

Stuart

Because it was a work in progress, mainly available upon request. 1.53 is the last "official" release.

Hey Stuart...you'll regret helping me to get DVD Profiler running on Linux...but it's terrific!  Let me know if you're able to get Mithirandir's skin working under Linux.  It took me forever to get it to work on Windows but it's a fantastic skin & is my preferred skin.  It's slow but the awards feature is more than worth it!
