When are you going to change the “Option A: No Banner” example, that has the HD DVD picture with a Banner, to an example of an HD DVD picture without one?

I'm not going to change it. The examples given are exact representations of cover art without the banners you are advocating.  It isn't my fault that you can't defend your argument against the covers as printed by the studios. You really should consider staying to your argument for adding your banners.

I pointed this out to you the first day, which would have been time enough for you to give this poll some fairness and even ground.
It is fair. To say that it isn't "fair" to show cover art as it's printed for that DVD is dishonest.

You called me ridiculous to accuse you of that, but you haven't proved me wrong.  You still didn't change the one example that leaves doubt in ones mind that you truly are playing a game here, by literally "stacking the deck" in your favor and getting away with it.

You even boast about liking to play this type of game in your signature:
“Dan - Deck Stacker Extraordinaire

Give us a poll on fair even ground please.

Paul

If you don't like the covers as printed by the studios, perhaps you should complain to them instead of me. I have no control over the way they are printed. Besides, there is a fine example of a cover you would prefer, in my post. Or are you suggesting that the scans for "Open Season" are unsatisfactory because it's a blu-ray disc?

Paul,

Just one additional thing.

There have been three polls in the past week and one of those was heavily slanted towards your argument; yet those results are pretty much the same as in this poll.

No need to worry, Paul, the forum members are smart enough to see what's being asked and cast their vote accordingly.

Whatever you call it Dan, posting as an example of an HD DVD cover with a banner on a poll which happens to be the example in the choice NOT to have a banner, is unfair and as you've proven now, a fun game of "stacking the deck".

Let's see - what are the odds?  1264 HD Profiles, half are probably Blu-ray so maybe out of 632 covers you picked one out of a possibie 7 HD DVD Combos in 632 possible covers that happen to have a Banner.  What a coincidence, we should blame the studio for that?

You are arguing to add a banner made from the case. I grabbed the case I had on my desk and scanned it. Are you changing your argument to include portions of the printed covers?

As I said, the forum members are smart enough to see that a banner created from the case is what is being debated and vote accordingly.

There are plenty of people out their who don't own either HD format yet.  If I wasn't familiar with the HD DVD combo cover, I would think why bother with the banner, because it already has one.  "Smart enough" or not.

Ok,  all I will say is that half of the deck is stacked.

I am one who doesn't have either format yet -- and my first thought was "why bother with the banner, because it already has one."  The Letters from Iwo Jima example is bound to skew the results of the poll because it appears that the banner information is already available at the top of the cover, when in many cases it's not.  The Open Season example doesn't have the same built-in bias, because the cover doesn't have a Blu-ray header.

I voted cover only with no case or banner because everyones banner/cover scans end up in a different shade.

This is one area where a feature of DVD Profiler could issue a standardized banner when submitting a scan of the paper cover for both formats, giving each the correct blue or red shade of color.

For a feature request, I would like to see the icons as the Red and Blue Standardized banners placed above the front cover scan, to make it easier for people to scan just the front and back covers, like they do for DVD covers, without having to learn superimposing techniques.

That was my suggestion too.  It would make everybody happy and the only con would be existing scans would need to be cropped.

I wouldn't mind helping with that either.

Bump, just for Richie. But Ken has still said that we have more banners than not, and that has been the user consensus for well over a year now. Get on board the train quick, it has left the station.

First time I've seen this poll so I wasn't aware of any "user consensus" (which seems to be highly lacking from the poll results btw.) but I only just started collecting HD titles so that's understandable. So I'll just add that whenever I have time to make my own scans, rather than grabbing some pre-existing art work, I will scan them without the case borders (or banner) as I don't see that they add anything of value.

I voted Option A, no banners!

And I totally agree with Paul Hillenbrands opinion, to add a feature where such a "banner" is automatically displayed at the top of the cover scan. It should be able to turn this option ON/OFF in the profilers options menue.
