John,

You claim to have experience, but you fight cast and/or crew linking. Without linking, what is the data for? I would think that someone with "experience" would understand that a pile of data without any good way to cross-reference it is a waste of time and disk space.

pdf

Or for a (non Profiler) real world example.

I work for a life insurance company. We maintain a database of customers policies, if we didn't match customers up when they applied for new policies, we would have no idea what risk that individual represents to us. And yes people do use variations of their names when completing their applications.

Of course we can ask for birth/marriage/civil partnership certificates to prove who they are, but that's a whole side issue.

Very simplistic, but which one reveals the most information.

One gives you minimalist information, the other one tells you not only who is in the Episode but where it is.

The comments you make, James and Lopek are precisely why I say I see no indication that you GET IT. If you got it you wouldn't have to make those comments

Oh, I get it, I just think it is completely stupid, and so I am ridiculing your foolish idea! Do you get it?

Your "idea" is not supported by the rules, and adds nothing of value as it duplicates info that is already in the disc info section.  Do you get it?

The Discs lists shows which episodes are on which discs already.

But OK, so if we're going for the most information, why not:

Disc 1
Side A (or Disc 1  Side A)
English 5.1
Spanish Stereo
Commentary
Episode
  Actor  role
  Actor  role
Disc 1
Side B (or Disc1 Side B)
English 5.1
French

Disc 2
Episode

Using the same logic, we might as well add episode sypnosis or runtimes to to the dividers. Actually, why stop there, let's add all of the specification to the dividers.

It's NOT Disc Info, it is ONLY a definition to provide informatiuon as to where in the set the data resides.     Jesus Christ!

Yes, your right, bringing up the description is a distraction to avoid the issue.

To answer though - because Ken wants it there - it is in the rules, and they are hard coded into the software. Do you get it?

"Disc 1 Side 1" etc. is not disc info...      Now that I freely admit I don't get!

Why does disc data, which we already record elsewhere, get duplicated in the cast and crew data then?

As if the Edition field argument is not a "distraction"?

"A definition to provide information as to where in the set the data resides" is what we call "disc info". We record that in the list of discs.

Widescreen Collection is not hard coded into the software, lopek. It is redundant data, a marketing gimmick employed by Paramount, and we have that data elsewhere in the program. So why do we employ it. Why do we include Widescreen when there is ONLY a Widescreen release. there is nothing to differentiate. Good God, man. You argumentsare so bogus.

It's all to do with consistency. We always enter the edition from the cover and don't make exceptions because the same data may occasionally appear elsewhere in the database.
