I just brought a used version of Troy 2 disc DVD for $5.98 off Amazon and I didn't know it came with out a DVD case or cover.

Isn't that against the law? I also believe it is a bootleg copy because the play side is purple and so is the DVD-r brand I use for backing up my DVD's etc.

Should I report it to Amazon?

You definately have a bootleg.  The purple color indicates it is a dye-based DVD+R recordable disc.  The commercial version is silver colored, and has a screen printed label side.  You can sell a used DVD without the cover, but you can't sell a bootleg copy--new, used, or otherwise.  Demand your money back, and contact Amazon and file a complaint.

I would also report the seller to the FBI, The MPAA and the legal department of the Studio for Troy, in addition to John's recommendation.

it's my fault also I looked at my order and see that there was only one other buyer from him with same issue. I never buy from people unless they have a lot of buyers and a 95%+ rateing no idea how this slip my radar.

I told Amazon and I am not going to call FBI , MPAA etc. I will let my bad comments stand for itself and the fact I reported it to Amazon and let them handle it.

If it's purple on the playing side, it's a copy/boot, no question.
I have never seen any legit disc with a purple surface, they'll be gold or silver.

Not always. Seduction Cinema/e.i. Cinema sometimes uses DVD-R's on their official releases. They once sent me a replacement disc which it was a DVD-R with a printed disc label.

Tempe has also released some DVD-R's (or at least one) to retailers. The recent "Shock Cinema Collection: Limited Edition" even has a note on the back cover that the 2nd disc in the set is a DVD-R.

Yeah, some smaller studios might make a few discs like this but Troy is from a major, and they never do.

That's why I always buy new DVD from Amazon sellers. But this is not a risk free transaction, one time I receive another version than the one listed (St clair vision version of "Gold Told Me To" in place of the Blue Underground version). Sure I was not happy, but I've no time to loose for 10$.

Amazon will cover you, at least they used to, for errors like this.
A couple years ago I ordered Jack Frost (the cheesy horror flick) from a seller, but got the Keaton kids movie. I just had to eat the $1.30 to send it back. I know the post office can eat up some time but you can get refunded if you're not happy.
I have an order out now for a cd from a seller. It's listed as new so I'm hoping. Now that I'm thinking about it I'm 1 for 3 in correct orders from sellers.

I love Jack Frost it is Jack Frost 2: The Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman that is chessy. Ok I am a sucker for the baby snowballs but the movie was pretty lame.

And refusing to take any action other than notify A,mazon or Ebay or whatever, only means he is free to prey on others as he did you Randal. OOOOh you reported him to Amazon, a change of email address and new scren name an d poof he is back or maybe he just moves to another site. Take a stand, Randall. The man is breaking the law.

I sent an report to the MPAA also after I saw 2 other people got screwed also. MPAA needs to fix their site I had to enter all the information about the DVD on one line. No word wrap but I sent it so see what happens if anything.

I am not going to worry about it any more.

Maybe I'm wrong, but you have to give your bank account info to amazon, at least for the canadian branch, for selling on their site. So even if you change your screen name that's change nothing.

Amazon just issues me a refund of $5.78 for the Troy DVD's but no mention of shipping them back. So I will hold on to them until I am told what to do with them.

Also MPAA has not written me a email confirming my report to them.
